Insurance and Roll Cage

Post by benji »

Hi all!

I've got a turbo arriving in april with a few mods (exhaust, induction kit, suspension, alloys, roll cage, steering wheel). I'm 23 with 4 years ncb, i've been quoted £1270 fully comp but they won't insure me on the roll cage.

Can anyone recommend any other insurers other than adrian flux. If the roll cage is a problem do you think a garage could take it out?

many thanks
ben

Rollcages aren't always brilliant for road driving (ie with no crash helmet or harnesses) as they can do more harm than good in an accident. For example if you hit your head on the cage in an accident, you are going to have a bit of a headache.

You can get padding for them though i'm not sure its going to be enough tbh.

Most cages are bolt-in so it would be easy enough to take out yourself in all honesty.

yeah shame a friend of mine had a roll cage in his mini but was only a half roll cage.

it was for a purpose though as the back seats were removed in the mini, engine in the back and converted to RWD and the cage was to stop it getting messy in the back.

the skyline in 2 fast 2 furious looks mint with the cage IMO :D

there are a few insurance companies, i think performance direct are ok with cages.

I've got a roll cage in my Escort turbo and have it insured through the RS owners club (for now anyway.... until I get my Rev 2!).

When I fitted the cage I phoned them up and told them and they sid it wouldn't cost me any more but they would have to remove personal injury cover as the cage could break away in a crash and injure me! :?

So if you don't mind not being covered for personal injury, you might be alright!
