D1 Professional Drift Series, Silverstone, Sunday 17th / 18th June

Following the successful inaugural event last year (which I attended) Silverstone are hosting another Professional Drift exhibition again this year. The professional drivers from Japan are joined by the best of our home grown drifters going head to head around the Luffield complex.

It’s exciting stuff!

More to follow as details are released….

More details....

Drifting is one of the fastest growing and most spectacular new forms of motor sport. Born in Japan, it sees drivers control their specially prepared cars in dramatic high-speed slides through a fixed course. Though speeds top 100mph, points are awarded for style rather than for the speed with which they complete the course. For the spectator it is an exciting and thrilling viewing experience with door-to-door performances, near misses, fast action, unbelievable angles of drift and plenty of tyre smoke.

As its name suggests, D1 Grand Prix is without doubt the ultimate drifting series in the world playing to packed houses in Japan and the USA. Last year Silverstone staged an amazing D1 Grand Prix Exhibition starring many of the world's top professional drifters. It was a roaring success and another event is scheduled for 2006 with a full-on points scoring round planned for 2007.

Now, after some thrilling exhibitions in 2005, you have the chance to see competitive UK drifting at its best with the D1 National Championship on Saturday, followed by the world's top professional drifters in the D1 Grand Prix on Sunday.

Wow! I went to this today, it was fantastic! The D1 drift guys are amazing, they put on a very good show...The AE86's are crazy, there was one with a Nissan 200SX turbo lump in it... I was drooling all over the shop... And to top it off I saw a mint Trueno in the public car park , I got a few photos for my next desktop image :D
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Was there this weekend to up in one of the hospitality sweets, was a really good day. Some very competitive racing going on and surprisingly very little contact with only a couple of of's.

Some truly amazing cars to, it's a shame the 2's handling is not so good i think it would make a nice addition to the field of 200SX's and skylines to name a few. I heard a rumour once that someone used to drift a 2 professionally probably a pub story though.

The next round to be held at silverstone is some time in august just to let people know.
