LOL! I would love a turbo but the insurance is steep enough with the n/a one never mind for a turbo! ouch! I have the bike for when I want speed and power (0-60 in about 4s and 160+ tops) so I'm really looking at the mr2 for its gorgeous looks, the mid engine setup and the fact that it's a 2 seater.

Hi mate

We have some northern Ireland members here, perhaps one of them will answer and give you some local advice. :)

Welcome to the site mate. The one problem i think you will encounter first off in this country is finding a mint MR2,but they are out there. Before my current turbo i had a '94 Rev 3 N/A and i spent 8 months looking before i bought it.Most i went to look at were high mileage, rusting sills and arches and wallowing suspensions.I was just about to go to England to purchase when a real minter turned up not far from me.At 3500 grand you should get into a good Rev3 '94 on.Any questions you have or advice you need dont hesitate to ask and i will help you as best i can

my only advice is that if you are going for an na with that budget, then go for a 1994+ rev3. you should be able to pick up a nice one for that money as well as it having a few mods like alloys and exhaust.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help.

Patrick - Glad to get talking to another NI mr2 enthusiast. I've a mate in N.I. who has one of the '95 ltd edition silver ones and he's sellin for 4500 I think, but I'm not looking for a turbo or a silver one. Plus it's way over my budget.

Just checked your profile mate and was surprised to see that your car is exactly the same sort of idea I'm looking for. I'd seen a pic of it somewhere online before and thought "I'm getting an mr2!!" I didn't realise it was yours. What a nice machine! looks stunning! What mods have you done? And if you don't mind me asking, what sort of price are we talking for similar alloys to those? Damn, it's great looking.

EDIT: Just scrolled down to see the mods. doh!

Alright m8, welcome. I live in Moira. As you have probably read, I'm drumming up 1 hell of a debate (see "Legal/Mechanical advice needed badly). I've seen Patrick's '2 too, very impressive.

Bit of advice, get it throughly checked over by a pro, don't buy the sales pitch (I am learning to my cost).

Depends what ur after: Power of bike=Turbo (penalty points) lol :D
Cool, image, poser= N/A (oh wait, i bought that) Lol

Dunno where you're based, but i've seen a '93 reg G-LTD in Lurgan, just of Malcolm Road but it's Red, looks the part. Should take a test drive in her to see if you are happy with N/A or need the turbo.

All the best

thanks very much for the comments mate, glad you approve. If it was me personally i would be looking into buying across the water. In over two years of MR2 ownership i haven't seen many black rev3's come up for sale in NI (i assume thats what your after  ).Have a mate who was looking for a black rev2 turbo for months,he ended up going to Liverpool last week and picked himself up a minter. One word of warning though,i would urge you not to take a test drive in a turbo because you simply wouldn't want and N/A then :D .Seriously though rev3 N/A's are fantastic motors and in the time i owned mine it never give a bit of bother.Any help you need just give me a shout,i could talk MR2's all day  .On the wheels by the way,750 quid delivered with toyo tyres.

Yea, I'm looking for the one with the more round rear lights like yours. So that's a rev3 then? what's the earliest year they started in? So it looks like I should take a trip to the mainland then. Ouch, thats gonna cost a few quid every time I wanna go test drive one!!

yeah '94 on was revision 3.This meant round rear lights,colour-coded side strips, one piece spoiler, revised suspension,side-impact bars and 173bhp high compression engine.I think they first started late '89 (119bhp) 3sfe.I would only go to the mainland though if it was genuine mint car.You would need to have seen lots of photos,it would need full history, all previous MOT's and low mileage.I wouldn't go jumping on a plane just yet though, keep an eye out locally you never know.

Thanks alot Patrick. I'll keep looking in N.I. and head to mainland as a last resort. I'd settle for a rev2 if it's in decent enough nick. Maybe I could pick one up for £2500ish and spare the rest for any minor work and a set of nice new rims! Thanks again for the help and info.

Hi Skytek,

Yeh, I agree with Patrick, check out NI first. The best thing to do is drive as many cars there (NA or turbo, whichever you choose to go for) and then you can get a feel for what is a good feeling car - in terms of mechanical condition etc. Then when you come over here, you'll know as soon as you get a peach!!

HTH,

Leon
