North East - Potential Events

Post by tubby_tony »

OK people. Im not on about the likes of the Nissan meets which we all enjoy and are very gratefull for. Im on about the likes of that great barbeque over in the lakes, the Kielder trip we have organised, the Scarborough trip, those kind of meets. Should we not be thinking of one good IMOC drive a month. Suggestions please so we can start getting organised.

The following are already set

May - Kielder (date set 7th)
Jun -
Jul - TOTB, Elvington, York (date set 30th)
Aug -
Sep -
Oct -

Now TOTB is set in stone and maybe it should not be included but it is one I want to keep in my diary. Does not mean that we cant organise something for earlier in that month.

Lakes was brill, thanks to Blue2 and Gtech so thats a must.

Scarborough was great fun, fish n chips were yummy.

What about a NE coast line route up to Berwick, across to Galashiels and back down through Jedburgh. With stop offs for food of course.

There is also Derwent Resevoir, Blanchland, Hexham, Alston.

And one I can definately vouch for is across A69 to M6, up to A75 on to Dumfries, Dalbeatie, Castle Douglas, Balcharry Bay, Kipford and the south west corner of Scotland. We drive across there in 2 hours 15 mins from Angel of the North on A1.

More suggestions required then get an idea of numbers and when to do them.

A visit to Croft Circuit would be good, I think this might have been organised before?

Croft meetings are brilliant - we have done a few of these over the past years. In the past we have met at Scotch Corner and then drove to Croft in Convoy and parked together. We normally go when theres a BIG meeting like the touring cars, F3, etc and have a BBQ around the cars after the event. Its a really good day out....

Should we pencil that one in then for Sunday 15th July

British Touring Car Championship - Croft

Meet in the Scotch Corner hotel car park at 09.30am and get to the circuit via Barton where there is an excellent back road, really tight and twisty and brings you right out in Croft just past the Croft Spa hotel.

Followed by a BBQ in the car park ( field ) and avoid the mad rush to get out of the circuit.

Cheers

What about a Northumberland Coast Run. We have done this a few times over the past couple of years - some fab roads, empty too as it runs alongside the A1....

Have a look:

Could have a visit to the Jim Clark Room in Dunns whilst we are there, really good musuem.

What about a track day @ Croft - really challenging circuit this one like. Watch Sunny In, it really tightens up and can be a little tricky.

As you can see we have been doing this type of thing for the past 5 years.

What about a trip to Le Mans.................................

http://www.mr2mk1club.com/pastevs128.html

I'm the chief organiser again this year and have been for the past 5 years - this is the best event I've ever been to since getting involved in the clubs. One in a lifetime experience. Theres a couple of threads on here specifically for the Le Mans 2006 trip.

KIELDER RUN MAY 7TH

Post by supermac »

Has the route been organised Tony. WE ( MK1 Club ) usually have a dash
along the forest drive but it's a bit rutted and bumpy this time of year and last time there was 4 inches of snow. ( spare undies in boot ), not the best surface if ya motors been lowered like!!!

What should we do in June? Lakes with BBQ and burn down the rugby club house? Northumberland coastline trip?

May
7th - Kielder

June
Im thinking Lakes late June (17th or 24th), warmer weather, hopefully sunshine. Who can recall the rugby club name. Maybe we could write to them regarding permission for BBQ.

July
Quite a lot happening here
14-15th BTCC
22-23rd JAE
30th TOTB5

August - Northumberland coast?

Sept - Whitby?

I'm up for just about any run going, but my heart is set on a proper track day, would be great to get a few guys from the MR2 meets there too.

September the 30th is an open day at Croft by EasyTrack www.easytrack.co.uk

I'm planning on doing this one, any others fancy it ?
