Oh dear, what have I done... (not very56k friendly)

Post by Aitch »

After having a 1987 MR2 years ago I always vowed I would have another as soon as I realised I was regretting selling it (which was as I watched it drive away down my road  ). So when this one with an ailing head gasket came up for sale on the SXOC boards with an asking price of "make me an offer", after a night in the pub it seemed like a good idea to make an offer - it would be rude not to really...

It arrives with me next Thursday and hopefully I will soon be knee deep in bits of engine as I strip it all down and attempt to fix it. It could all go so horribly wrong though, but we'll see

The MR2 joins this Mitsubishi Starion...

...and this Nissan 200SX S14, that some may remember from last years JAE...

It doesn't look like that any more :(

Unfortunately I didn't moooove out of the way when some dopey idiot decided they would use the back of my car to stop, instead of their brakes, on a dual carriageway in Macclesfield. I had to remove all the cow markings because it wasn't declared to insurance companies and they would only repair it back to being a white car, so it looks like this again...

The cow design was only supposed to be temporary, but I got used to it and got a fair bit of female attention from it :D 8). My then girlfriend wasn't so happy about it though

I swear I remember the Starion from SXOC.. but I could be imagining that - definitely remember the moocow S14 though.

Nice Mk1 - that's an early car without the side skirts etc isn't it? Always thought they looked oddly.. bare (sorry Lauren, I know you prefer them ;)).. Very tidy though - the bodywork looks perfect, can't see any of the normal rust there, top job :)

You probably do remember the Starion from SXOC - I have posted pictures of it on there :)

I have agreed a price for the MR2 from the photographs alone - it's a bit of a gamble and one that I'll find out whether or not it's paid off at the end of next week when it arrives :-k

Cheers Mark (and Lauren)

The car will arrive by the end of the week, so any time after that, when you're free, will be fine. The first thing will be to assess what the problems are, what's caused the HG to fail, and then form a plan of action for putting it right. Your offer of help is most appreciated and, in fact, is partly what swayed me to take the plunge and go for this car :thumright:

Well, it arrived today, on the back of a trailer, all the way from Bournemouth. And when it came to getting it off the trailer the guys delivering it realised they'd left the keys at their mate's house where they stayed last night on their way up

So it was pushed off the trailer and onto my drive, where it was locked and there it will remain, untouched until I get the keys through express delivery on Monday. I hope :(. I would have liked to get started on it this weekend, but I couldn't really leave it unlocked just in case.

It isn't quite as good as it looks in the pictures, but not bad at all for a 21 year old car and I can't really complain for £350. Some of the parts I need to get it roadworthy are in there. Which is nice :)

Oh the joys of agreeing to buy a car, while pi$$ed, over an internet, based on pictures alone, trusting a fellow club member (SXOC)

Project Aitch has now started (once I get the keys  ) :clown:

The keys have finally been found and are being posted to me tomorrow (well, later today - just noticed the time  ) so by Wednesday I should be in a position to start assessing properly the severity of this project I've taken on :?

I can't wait to get started - for the last week or so I've had an expensive drive ornament :(
