Hi
I recently bought a 96 UK spec NA MR2, with about 88k on the clock and a full toyota service history.
I took someone allong with me who is more mechanicly inclined than myself who helped me look over the car, allong with the fantastic buyers guide on this site. Both of us took it out for a test drive and it was great and all seemed to be ok so I went ahead and bought it.
The car is due a service according to the records, now thats my first question. Where should I go to get it serviced, currently I live in the North London Enfield. How much does a service go for by MrT? Or are there any specialist places that anyone could reccomend?
I would like to know how to do some basic stuff myself, the car does need an oil change and I hate to say it i've never done work on my own cars but I would like to learn how to even if it's just simple stuff.

closest to you, im not sure.
88k miles, mmmm, have you receipts for the 60k mile service, this should have included a cambelt change.....i suppose the most important thing is do you know when the cambelt was last changed????
general service includes, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, maybe coolent change if it needs it, ignition components, (plugs, dissy cap, rotor arm, leads(if old))......
have a look in the knowledge base section, there should be a pretty good idea of whats involved with a proper service.
if none of these places are close enough for you, your local toyota should be your best bet, someone whos worked on mr2s before (not your local cowboy garage).

Thanks mate.
AFAIK the cambelt was changed at 55k miles according to recepits and a sticker on the engine cover. I'll have to take a look at the affiliates section as well.
Re: Newbie questions
bare in mind, there supposed to be changed every 5 years or 60k miles.....which ever is sooner.

Hmm so if the cambelt was changed in 02, does that mean it will need changing soon?

Welcome to IMOC
Have a look in the Knowledge Base (http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php) for instructions to do most things. Changing the oil is simple enough, only more complicated thing is the coolant, which can lead to problems if you get an airlock when you're changing it.
