Sync pulse... are you talking about synchronisation in the cams with the bottom end / crank @ TDC ??

Absolute sync will occur 720 degrees - 2 complete rotations of the crank will line up the cams to the original point you started off with.

Does the link work off the distributer to work out the crank position or is it looking for a crank position sensor ???

If I remember, a tooth needs to be removed in the distributer on some systems

it can use the distributor to identify rotation of the crank so thats ok, but the manual uses the term sync as a referance point to any trigger/switch/or marker point identifying the start and finish of full rotation of the crank with reference to the wiring of injectors,

Its all abit strange, the ecu understands the rotaion of the crank but still insists that you must wire the injectors up in the firing order following the cycle of the trigger point, so if the cync point occurs between 1 and 3 i would wire the injectors different than if the cync point occured between 3 and 4.

This is mental!

I am assuming the the cync point is after 2 as 2 is last in the firing order, but as it quite clearly demonstartes in the manual you cannot make these assumptions.

Having spoken with a really nice bloke at Millway we have established that the ecu is looking for double info, and even so it doesnt matter cos wherever the syn point is eventually it would all catch up with its anyhow, it seems as though this sync point is really just to ensure first crank start up.

so now ive confused myself and evryone else, ive decided on my original theory.

Injector cable number 1=1 2=3 3=4 4=2 all that makes sense doesnt it?

sorry for the hijack....JJ ive got my old turbo engine out,was indeed oil pump failure and the bottom end has gone on cylinders 1 and 4 which also have strange pitting on top of the pistons.

To the point,is the old engine any use to you? free of course, just id rather you made use of it than the scrap man get it,theres a complete rev2 head there as well and loads of other bits you might be able to salvage, let me know dude.

Big fellar, reserve it for me if you can, I'll sort something out with you soon about it !

Fonzy ............... bloody hell !! you've just stepped on the steep slope of engine management knowledge.

I hear what your saying and from what you've said :

"Injector cable number 1=1 2=3 3=4 4=2 all that makes sense doesnt it?"

it seems feasible..... if a little unusual to be switching the injectors position.

The sync signal need to happen otherwise the ecu won't start the firing and fuelling sequence ... one of the reasons why the engine turns over 2 times ( 4 groans from the engine ) before it'll start in any modern day efi car.

Any progress today ???

yeah the only progress is you confirm what i thought, but do you think its safe to assume the signal comes after 2 and before 1 ?

also i can tell u the link ecu is proper standalone definately not plug and play, having looked at the software its very simple to use too! i intend on learning alot more about engine management and want to be able to tweek it myself after the initial power tune. Its a damn good bit of kit even if a little complex to wire in. :P
