Got my new Rev3 Turbo.... Steer clear of Daie Motors :(

Post by jrleech »

Well, after 6 months of waiting, I finally got my car yesterday.

1994 Rev3 GTS Turbo, Hardtop, Carribean Blue, 29,000 miles.

What I was expecting (what I requested), was an un-molested standard car, low mileage and as clean as I could get.

What I've got is clearly an ex drift racing car, that's been badly bodged back to standard spec. Most of the interior needs replacing (either very faded or has bits cut out, holes drilled for gauges etc, even the main dash!), it's got no wheel arch liners, missing undertrays, radiator cover, spare wheels not sucured, the list goes on.

It looks OK, and appears to be mechanically sound (at least it is now after the suspension has been swapped), but with a list of jobs and parts at least 50 lines long to sort everything, I'm really pi$$ed.

Paid £6500 + new tyres + alarm, so I was expecting so much more :(

I'm sure once I've sorted everything it'll be fine, but I paid good money so I didn't have to spend many many hours fixing it up.

Can't even just sell it as it is and be done with it, as no-one will pay £6500 for a car in this condition.

I'm never, ever buying a car without seeing it again. Trust no-one.

Regards,
Jon

I agree! Surely you must have some comeback seen as how the car you've paid for is not to the standards they advertised to you.

Gutted for you.

Unfortunately not...

The way it works is they send you photo's from Japan, you pay the japanese price, it's shipped, it lands, you pay for the tax/vat/import/shipping to the UK agent, then the balance (£1k) when you pick it up.

I could have refused to pay the last £1k, but under the T&C's I wouldn't get my money back until it was resold to someone else (which it wouldn't for that price).

The photo's they sent were very poor quality, like a 0.5MP camera phone, resized to 200x100 pixels... you can't pick out any problems with that kind of detail. But, as I was assured they were a very reputable company, I accepted based on those pictures.

You're right, it's not on, the whole situation is utterly outrageous, but there's sod all I can do about it.... except make sure no-one else buys a car from them.

Jon

Which agent did you use jon? Thought you'd of stayed away from rev3's after the MRD deal. Ive come to my end with the MR2 gone to rotary power instead now! :D

Used Julian at MR2 Direct Imports....

I'm not too impressed with Julian either, as he's the one that convinced me that Daie Motors were a very good reliable company, which is why I accepted based on lousy photo's.

Since ordering, Julian's told me he's had issues with Daie Motors, and is now going to stop using them..... so I'm a little annoyed he conviced me to buy from them.

All these problems I've been having getting decent Mk1's or Mk2's is really taking the edge off the MR2 bug for me.... Seems like I'm doomed to buying cars at top price, spending loads on them to fix them up, and selling them for loads less than I spent in the first place ](*,)

man I'm depressed

Yeah, I'm hopeing there's some redeeming features!

I've sent Julian a list of all the problems, I'll see what he has to say.

yeh, the cars that are listed as "in stock" must be ones that peeps decided they didnt want in the end.

Thats bad mate...hopefully you can make the best of it...
I dont think I could every import or have acar imported for me..Ive heard too many scare stories now. I good friend of mine who imported an R32 GTS and WRX had the ship lose some containers in a collison at sea, his cars are now in Davey Jones Locker...
I think ill just let someone else do the hard work and worrying and Ill buy them off the forecourt

Same company / bloke... Japanese Direct Imports - Julian Alison....

I'm sure a lot of people have had some good cars off him, that's why I went with him.....

Seems every time I put my trust in someone, I end up getting screwed.... I can't keep doing it, I can't cope with the let downs and I certainly can't afford it. Might just sell them all and buy a Boxster S.
