Ahhh, the safe way to take revenge.

essexgirlracer - don't let it put you off enjoying the car, get back out there as soon as you've got your new tyres on!

I know the A414 btw, not far from where I live. Doesn't surprise me cars end up in ditches there!

I thought you needed an english GCSE to go to university?

The thing is when people read posts having not meet the poster they will form an opinion. This will be via username, type of language used, spelling etc. Unfortunately your username says "girl racer" your english says "chav" and spelling... well i'm sure you get the picture. You appear to perfectly fit the stereotype of an irrisponsible youngster with too much cash and not enough sense. :(

However I have never actually meet you, this may all just be coincidence, maybe it was sheet ice and nothing could have been done, sorry you bent your car, be more carefull in the future, don't try to catch people up. :)

I've bent 2 cars one at 17 another at 18, both occasions conditions were awful but on both occasions I was driving too fast for the conditions. I'm now 28, have had increasingly more powerful cars yet have not had an accident since back then whilst fitting the stereo type of a boy racer.

Steve,

Thats a bit harsh don't you think, to just stereotype immediately at people just down to the language they use on an Internet forum!

To be honest the younger generation of people now talk short hand - mainly because of the invention of SMS and MSN / any other IRC (similar) chat programs. This doesn't effect the quality of work etc they hand in at uni.. or the person in question may suffer from dyslexia!?

I admit that I feel in this case that it was driver error.. and also from a 360 spin on the road isn't the place to get out and puke up outside your car!

As you say that you crashed 2 cars while you were young (although I'm sure they weren't MR ones ;) but as you said you learnt from it.. so surely we should hope that essexgirly does too? Or at least why not help and show her the error of her ways? Ie budget tyres, MR car (if you come from FF cars or even FR cars) its totally different.. it has a reputation for being "tail happy" by reporters.. well the early revs do anyway, even though they are fantastic until they break away.. its down to the drivers skill and experience on how they deal with it.

In this case an accident probably could've been avoided.. but unless we were in the drivers seat we'll never know. Mainly just slow down and let the car tell you what its doing. Too much throttle and you'll whip round!

Although I agree with you that at being at such a young age.. driving inexperience will have played a great deal in how to handle the situation than anything else. 90% of driver do the wrong thing on a skid pan, and this sounds like a case of "not what to do".

Something spring to mind here, and don't take this the wrong way.

If you think it's easy to control RWD after such limited driving experience, then you simply haven't had the car properly sideways.

This is probably further backed up by the fact that you simply cannot nor should you push a car anywhere near its limits on the public road - get out on a track day/airfield, and discover it properly.

yes quite true, I was just commenting on a possible explaination for the lack of sympathy demonstrated. I will openly admit I will build a picture of a person in my head and stereotype them, as do many others.

Vicky Pollard,... do you laugh at or relate too, wondering why people laugh? I think many of the younger SMS generation don't realise that they come across 100% Vicky Pollard when trying to communicate in SMS/MSN language especially when combined with general spelling mistakes you'd expect from a 8 year old.

Very true but I find it sad that we have that kind of image portrayed on the TV. As if people with only 1/2 a brain cell watch it they think she's cool and thats the way to act... or we have a vast amount of women like this and hence they get generalised...?!

I don't know.. but I'm not one for stereotyping people until I actually know them. As I know people stereotype me.. but its always good to prove them wrong!

I span my mk2 turbo after 3 weeks of ownership in the wet on crap tyres, and i'd been driving rear wheel drive cars 7 years at that point. It really does surprise me how some of these youngsters manage to buy and insure a car like a mk3 mr2. It doesn't surprise me that the crashes then happen.

maybe so, but my mechanical engineering degree didn't really help my car control one bit! experience did though.

I reckon that of all my friends that learnt to drive, 50% of then had crashed their car at some point within the first 3 years, purely through overconfidence in their abilities or general inexperience. The other 50% got away with it. Unfortunatly, you didn't on this occasion. But i bet you'll drive a bit more sedately for a while. I know i did.

F*ck me i sound old and i'm only 30.

I know how easy it is for the backend to go in an mr2, I wrote off my car on boxing day and had lost the backend out of a junction so was taking it slowly. Got to the long straight and slowly started accelerating to 50mph. Then suddenly the whole back end just slid out and the car wouldnt respond at all. After the crash i got out the car and i could hardly stand on the road, was shocking. Was even thinkin about taking the council to court but i think it would be a waste of time. A 2nd crash happned on that road 15 mins after mine with a clio. And everybody that knows me as the young boy who owned an mr2 thinks its because i was going far to fast and a dangour on the roads. I would never ever race somebody in this weather. It just rly annoyd me that everyone blammed me and nobody was actually there 2 c how bad the road was. Still gutted about losing the car aswell. At least your car is repariable tho, mines long gone. :( .

also... how the hell can you afford 2 run an mr2 if your a student!?!

Yeah... mine had to be garaged for a year :( although didn't graduate so back in employment and back to driving the 2!

Although I do believe the name and "txt spk" didn't help your cause, added to the fact you were coming back from a "cruise". But you learnt the hard way.. the thing to check is tyres! Remember that the total contact patch of all 4 tyres is probably around the size of 1/3 of a credit card and thats it. Lose this traction patch and you're a gonna! But you found that out.

No offence but with only 2yrs driving experience you don't know what RWD cars are like unless you've done anything else.. but then more than likely wouldn't of been caught out just as quickly. 2yrs driving experience is nothing.. but then 10yrs FWD experience still can't be accounted for when it comes to MR cars, although some principles remain the same FF/FR cars are much more forgiving due to where the weight and pivot point is.

Well as there was no damage you can count yourself lucky. Book a track day and hopefully it'll be wet so you can get used to controlling a MR car in the wet (as at greater speeds) it'll be like driving on ice (sort of)

Otherwise if you have any mates with karts try and go to a practice day (as you won't need a licence) and then if its wet you can put some slicks on and learn the way the kart feels.. this is similar to a car but you get a lot more feedback from the kart.

In all fairness i lost control of my evo (one of the most stable cars you can get) mid bend.... i wasnt going quick (40 ish ) and had gone quicker round said bend on many occasions.

I dont know what happened weather it was something on the road or due to a dodgy tyre, but these things happen. It dosent just happen to girl/boy racers you know.

I think the way this thread has turned out is pretty appaling, with all the stereotyping that has gone on. I can't spell very well either but it dont mean i'm a chav.

Oh and steve b you said you form an opinion of someone based on there username..... what do you think i do.... spit flames from my ar$e or something.... :-s

Sometimes people really need to think a little more before going off on one.

Go easy on the girl...

Hope you and your 2 are doing ok
