Post by jasona »

Hi

I'm going to see a UK car tonightthats up for a good price for my pocket, my insurance is through the roof at the mo hence not going for my original £3500 price tag

Anyway here's the details feel free to let me know if its a bargain or a scam :)

Any info you can help with appreciated, I know its not a T-Bar, anyone tell from the pic what rev it is. It has a GTi 16 badge on the back.

Here's the parkers price guide that I had to pay for exact details of the car entered.

millage a tad high?? over a 100k? i would make sure it has a full service history, and that theirs no blue smoke from cold anf the gearbox is smooth, no problems getting in to gear!

Regards
Rob

ps i would go for an older model with less miles for the same price

Hi Merlin

Thanks for the reply.

Yep out of it all to me the mileage is a bit ovr what i would like however there are a number of factors that I've had to keep to.

I have to get a full UK spec no import whatsover
It has to be black
This car has been owned by three lady drivers - I know its sexist but I think they probably drive a little slower than us males.
The price is very very good for my pocket - leaves me £1000 spare for any work that may need doing after purchase

I've spent two weeks looking for a good car and out of over 150 looked at there have only been about 3 I have found - all the rest are either imports, turbos or white - sorry white owners ;)

I guess the question I'm asking is whats likely to happen to the car at this mileage - I'm not bothered about making back any money on it.

I'm only planning on keeping for 1 year to build up NCB and then move onto an import/turbo.

Milage on the 3SGE engine is not a prob, my last MR2 had 130k on by the time i sold it, and all it had go wrong was an HT lead

My last 3sGE had 125,000 miles on it and it burnt a litre of oil every thousand miles or so! I had that 8 years ago...and funily enough I saw it driving around in the summer, with god knows how many miles on it!!

Looks like a Rev 2. Money sounds ok if its in good condition. If your not happy with it and the owner wont take an offer you can walk away. It took me 2 months to find my tubby and I know a lot of people on this site have spent much longer looking for the right car.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys - as far as spending a number of months looking - I only want this for a year then off to turbo land :)

The way I see it if I can get it for 2500 I'd be a happy man so long as mechanically it all checks out - HPI etc came back all clear.

Make sure its got revision lights though, i.e. reverse lights in centre panel and rounded rear lighs, plus the newer rear spoiler, otherwise you can get a rev 1 which has less milage and costs less. :D

Jasona,

It should have lights like the set on my profile if its a rev 3+. Ignore the spoiler, it wont have one of them.

I doubt whether it will have that extra - but a REV 1 is going to be cheaper as they significantly improved the Rev 2 in many ways I believe.

I guess it boils down to do you want a younger car with more miles or an older car with less ...

Why wont it have the spoiler or was that a 94 onwards thing?

It will have a spolier but not the newer model as that was on Rev three onwards - same as the lights - but you can get them fitted on older models - and the owner of this particluar car being a family man I doubt they would have bothered.

It looks like a rev2 mate....same spoiler/lights as a rev1.

Rev3 was late 93.

It should have a spoiler. I meant it just wont have one like the one on my profile. Toyota did make a model without spoilers but it had a less powerfull NA engine in it.
