Picking up my first MR2 tomorrow!

Post by scary steve »

Hi peeps,

I pick my bog standard UK-spec GT T-Bar tomorrow, and I'm well excited!

The test drive on Saturday was the first time I'd ever been in an MR2 in my life, and I was pretty shocked.

I knew it would be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be so responsive, and with it being a 1991 model, it hasn't got power steering - just like an Elise :)

A lot of my chums were egging me to get a turbo, and there were quite a few going for less than I paid for mine - but at the moment reliability comes over power, and I didn't want to take the chance - even though all the Toyota's I've ever owned have been dead reliable (AE86 and a wide body Celica Supra).

I've got a fair few plans for it, but nothing daft.

Roll on the spring, so i can take the roofs off :)

Welcome to IMOC!

The early Rev1 and 2 Mk2 NAs would be my pic of the NAs due to them having slightly more torque than the non VVTi later NAs.

I don't know if this is your first RWD car, but given its cold and wet out there I'd recommend some good tyres and a laser 4 wheel alignment as the first thing you do - they can tranform the car - certainly did my Turbo when I picked it up a few years back :)

After getting used to the car, if you want to learn more about its handling a skidpan session followed by an Airfield trackday will really open your eyes to what its possible to do.

Welcome.

Have a good time in the 2. Take it easy in this weather though.
