Clifford for less than 200 notes?????

Post by Scotster »

Is this a good deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLIFFORD ... enameZWD1V

From what i read its got everything i am looking for. I can't see the catch for the money they are asking. I assume its not cat 1 so thats obviously a downer but it seems to do everything else.

Would i be talking stupid money to have this installed professionally ie with cert for insurance?

My ideal alarm would be cat 1 alarm and immobiliser with remote start. Looking around it seemed i would have to pay around £500 to get this.

you can easily pay up to £100 for fitting on top of that though. Its worth getting a cat1 alarm and proper fitting as many insurers don't recognise non certified alam systems (expensive or not)

£100 is actually less than i was thinking. Is a decent cat 1 not around 500 notes to get fitted then an extra 200 or something for the remote start? I don't have that kind of cash lying around at the moment (nor will i ever probably lol). I have a grand to spend and most of that is going on the clutch and timing belt.

Cheers

The matrix series are not cat 1 so won't save you any money insurance wise and a lot of insurance companys now ask for cat 1 to be fitted.

FWIW I had a clifford concept 650 which was about £600 fitted and was cat 1, and proffessionally fitted.

IIRC, fitting a remote start voids the Thatcham 1 approval and makes it a Thatcham 2. Pretty sure it says this somewhere in the Clifford manual (600) that I have.

I've said this before but if you're gonna get a Clifford, don't try to save the pennies, it's just not worth it. Get it professionally fitted by a reputable company otherwise you'll have all sorts of problems.

Cliffords are very complex and *must* be fitted correctly. Mine took over a day to install and most of the car interior was stripped out in order to do it. If you can find an installer that will install it for £100 then they're probably cutting corners which will give you grief down the line.

If you can only afford £300 for an alarm then get a Toad, they're much more forgiving with almost all of the features of the Clifford.
