Intro to FreeFall

Post by FreeFall »

Hi all,

Not sure if this should be in the Members Profile section but, if so, I'm sure one of our kind and newly elected mods will move it.

My name is Nick and I've been running a completely standard '90 Rev 1 NA for the past 5 and-a-bit years but recently persuaded my wife (of considerably less time) that a tubby would be the best 'fun' car to upgrade to (we also have a MK4 Golf 2L Gti as a runabout ) :puker: She prefered the Lotus Elise but they are soooo impractical :gayfight:

I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks, posting a few computer related replies as I don't have the knowledge of the '2 to be of much help, but as I've just started filling in my garage details I thought now would be a good time to say hello.

I found a small local dealer selling this car and, although it wasn't presented at its best, I liked it from the off. I was looking for a tastefully modded example and this one seemed to have had a lot of work done to it in the performance department (not my strong point) and with a pretty much standard interior/exterior, allowing me to put more of a personal signature on it (not my strong point either but at least you can't blow up anything important with a bad choice of 'wing' )

I am still waiting to take delivery, there is a problem with the alternator and passenger side window that the dealer is going to fix before releasing the car, they're taking their time though which is making me  . The engine stuff was done by TDI in Essex, who I am assured are a very reputable company who know their stuff - in fact it goes there tomorrow to get the alternator problem sorted (apparently). The 2.2 HKS Stroker engine is not even run in yet at around 600 miles (no hard/soft run-in arguments please :-$ ), but they are going to do an oil change and mapping session once it is to get it all set up. I've been told by the dealer that it should run 360 BHP (not sure if fly or wheels) once it is all mapped and that it is capable of 550 BHP if I change the piggy-back ECU for a dedicated one. He quoted a price of around 2k to do this which I think is probably complete BS.

Anyway, I'll post up some more pics when the beast arrives - if only to get those 'in the know' to identify the various components that have been fitted. I'm looking forward to attending a few meets and trackdays ( I'm a virgin  ) as long as it doesn't involve having to interact with chavs 8-[

Right - that's me, hello to all and congratulations to the peeps who run this site - top job! :thumleft: It would be great to hear any comments/questions that you have about the car, or me, so fire away!

Nick

Thanks Luke!

I'm looking forward to the "Anyone know what turbo this is (yes, pics are included)" type of threads, I'll be sure to do a search before posting up though!

I've had some great info and entertainment from this forum so far, long live IMOC UK and I look forward to giving something back when I get a chance.

Welcome to the club. I'll move this one over to Member Profiles for you, it would be best there. Nice sounding car though.

Just had a look in your car's Garage - you got any pics of the engine bay? Others here may well be able to help identify any other goodies you've got fitted.

Sadly, not yet. I'm still waiting to take delivery due to the fact that a new battery is running flat, even though it is brand new and the alternator tests out OK.

There is some history with the vehicle in that the previous owner apparently paid a large sum of money to get the best stuff fitted and then couldn't pay the bill. The car has been sat around for a few months but looks pretty sound from my inexpert viewpoint.

As soon as I get my sticky mitts on it I will snap some pics and get them posted up, 'cos let's face it, we all love pics! =D> [ 56k dial-up disclaimer may apply ]
