What a way to cap an awesome season.

David Hawkins of Twosrus.com trailered Hyde out to Island Dragway in New Jersey this evening for some open track grudge racing.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
After previously running a new PB of 11.44@120 with the ignition breaking up, we wanted to get one more shot at Hyde's 200K motor before it comes out.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
A new MSD blaster coil and tach adapter was installed with my
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
"old" MSD box.
I'll give the runs in order and then give the full story for those interested.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)

Notice that running the Pro tree all year has really improved my R/Ts on the sportsman tree
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
~ on the first few runs.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Then I woke up realized that R/T doesnt matter when I am shooting for a new personal best, so I slowed down at the line and took my time.

The near lane is Scott Barton
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(sab0276 on mr2oc.com)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
the cool guy that just set a couple of land speed records in the USA, not the cool guy on the UK board.
![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
He went 12.7

@ 109 with his ATS CT27-turboed MR2.

So, the first run I completely forgot how to drag race.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
My focus wasnt there and I was too stressed out about only getting one run if Hyde went boom.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Second run: 22 psi, pretty clean, but was overheating after the finish.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Third run: 22 psi,
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
pretty clean, but over heated more.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Fourth run: 23 psi, awesome launch, great shifts and a new personal best of 12.216
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
@ 122.92 No overheating?!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Fifth run: cranked boost up, hit 25.7 psi
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(yikes) and was off the chart of the tune for the car.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
It went pig rich and bogged to hell so I got off of it and cruised to the finish.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Sixth run: Turned boost down to 24 psi, was not terrible clean.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I got thrown off by a delayed light.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I got out of the 2-step and had to restart it
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
so I had a delayed launch.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Car was really overheating now.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Seventh run: I was overheating as I rolled onto the track, so I had the heater on full blast
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
got it down to operating temps and skipped the burnout
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(hence the poor 60).
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
This was my first race against Scott Barton.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I went 11.7 to his 13.3
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(he was adjusting things all night).
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
After this run Hyde was really over heating and would not come back down in temps
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
so I parked it.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
We waited an hour, topped off the coolant,
removed the complete intake and ran straight turbo
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
and Hyde would not start
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(sigh).
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
We jumped him and started him up and I rolled down to the lanes.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Eight run: Good launch, good 2nd gear shift, the car felt amazing by
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
½ track
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
figured I just need a solid 4th gear shift and I was dreaming of 10s.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Unfortunately when I nailed 4th gear I popped an intercooler hose
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(first one in 2+ years).
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I am extremely excited that I still went 11.55
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
@ 108 with no 4th gear power.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Even more exciting was the 99 mph
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
½ track!
amazing how taking off the air filter and intake gained 2 mph
in the
½-track.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Ninth run: This was one of my favorite drag races of all time.
It was a hugely built 1956 Chevy.
One rear tire was as wide as both of mine
(no exaggeration!).
This car was a beast.
He killed me at the light with a
.018 RT to my sleeping
.352.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
We both went 1.6 in the 60
we both went 4.7 in the 330 and 7.3 in the
½ track
but I hit the top of 3rd and started reeling him in hard.
I was so excited! I couldnt believe I was reeling in this purpose built drag machine.
I passed him at the finish with a 11.30@ 123 to his 11.56
@ 115.99.
He took the win by
.07, but he had a
.334 advantage at the light.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Last run
(#10): Scott and I were the third pair of cars to race after a sport bike.
Dont you know the sport bike flips it at
½ track during his second wheelie of that run.
He was okay and the bike was fine, but they had some clean up to do.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
We were going to be the last run of the night.
Hydes oil light came on
was over heating and was generally just sitting in his own smoke.
Hydes PCV is now chimney.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I rolled up and completely flubbed the burnout.
I thought about it
last run of the night.
Last run of the season
.
So I backed
er up and nailed a much better 2nd burnout.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
And thats when I nailed the run:
.29 R/T
1.498 in the 60!! and the rest was history.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
11.131
@ 123.75 at 23 psi of boost.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Hyde is still running.
He drove into the trailer under his own power.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I had a 5-mile drive home from the place where I store my trailer
Hyde did that 5-mile with the fuel light on and the oil light
lol.
He still lives, but will have a new heart next year.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Thanks ATS Racing
& NoShoes for an awesome year of racing.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
thanks David Hawkins for being an awesome support personell!
