i have an idea to buy a mr2 turbo in good/ok condition and do it up

want to start with engine . maybe pay to get engine out cleaned out. make the engine totally solid. solid gaskets etc .. whatever to make it solid and reliable.

is there a tried and tested method to reconditioning engines and where to look . who to use etc..

Never understood having a “project” and then getting someone else to do all the work.
The labour costs must be astronomical!!!

Best best is to do all the spannering yourself such as removing the engine and cleaning etc and then get someone else to do the more specialised work such as building it back up etc and then put it back in yourself.

This is at a point that i am at myself and tbh i am struggling to find someone who i can trust to do the engine work for me.
I have left messages and emails to many “speciliasts” and many have failed to provide a proper breakdown of costs or even havent replied.... very frustrating...

Its only undoing nuts and bolts and unplugging things. Take note of what u take off.
Buy an engine crane £100 from ebay new.

I wouldnt have a project car if you cant do basic things. Maybe removing an engine seems daunting but it isnt really. Im no mechanic but managed to replace turbos, install chargecoolers,fit new fuel pump etc etc. Just read up and go for it.
Ask questions on here if need be.

depends on experience, tools and room you have available on your drive/work space.

im due to remove my engine in a few weeks. il let you know how i get on

Its not hard there are plenty of instruction places on the internet, the most important thing is to bag EVERYTHING up in labeled bags and keep them in some form of organiser. It will make putting it back together after 1000 times easier.

I removed my engine in a day

Label wiring connectors and take photos of all the routing of hoses, vac lines and wiring looks before removing them. Also note/label the very important earth leads.
Also photo all the brackets and mounts so you now where and how they go.
