Cleaning gear knob (FFS!)

So, my rev5 gear knob was looking particularly grubby so I took it off and cleaned it with some Dodo Juice Supernatural Leather Cleaner.
Bad decision. It took off not only the dirt but the nice shiney smooth surface of the leather and I'm now left with the top of the gear knob in a dark brown 'suede' finish.
Looks even worse now :-(
Should I put a bit of black leather dye on it (or as someone at work suggested, use a permanent black marker to colour it)?
Are the rev5 knobs readily available new? Would imagine they're bloody expensive

About 100 quid new. Sadly due to the damp nature of the car it happens tI us all! Many opt for an aftermarket TRD one instead.

I had my gear knob recovered by Rhon some years ago, but I'm not sure if she is still doing this work. She's still listed as a trader, but her last post was in 2015. Try dropping her an email at [email protected] - her work is first class.

Agreed, her work is top notch - I've had stuff done by her in the past.
Trouble is, I would have to be without the gear knob for a while which isn't good for me as its a daily driver :-(

I've got a veilside alloy gearknob if that helps. It is threaded for the MR2. it is of no use to me.
