I've got Rust forming

Help me, I washed my car today and to my dismay a big Rust patch turned up underneath some mud :(

What should I do, and how much is it going to cost me? :(

How come?

Find a good reputable bodyshop and get a quote. I'd actually advise just scrapping off the surface rust and treating that yourself and getting it properly seen to in the summer, when the ambient temps are a bit warmer and there's less ( ) moisture in the air. My local bodyshop always advises to wait on small jobs until the warmer months, and they have an extremely high reputation as the local Porsche, Mercedes and BMW dealerships use them.

cheers for that.
Although putting a sandpaper to my "tubby" is not going to be very pleasant at all

it's such as shame as the rest of the paint bodywork is in pristine condition :(

at the end of the day, it's only paint and metal. Preventative work now better than welding in panels later.

From the looks of that picture, give the area a good polish first to get rid of the rust staining on the paint and it won't look so bad and also show you where you need to remove the top coat of paint and treat. Then attack it with some sandpaper and it will look as bad, if not worse.

Saying that i'm probably the last person to take advice from as I always concentrate on the mechanicals rather than the body. get it running and stopping right, thensort out the fancy stuff has always been my motto.

Then again, my Suzuki SJ has just polished up rather nicely today for it's eBay pictures tomorrow!

You need to get some rust inhibitor on it, it turns the rust into hard metal to stop it spreading.

Looks like an easy repair with a lower door paint job, pop the moulding off to hide the seam then reaffix, buff to match paint.

Maybe £100 to £150 done...

Doesn't look like it would take much to sort mate. If it is just surface rust, you could probably sort it yourself for relatively cheap! :)

You are going to need to sort the dent out too. At first I thought "thats odd, twos don't rust there" then I noticed the dent. Has it had some hand jockey open a door into it in the car park?

I'm no expert at repairing these things but I have come across a 'How To' guide from Halfords that I will probably give a go.
http://www.halfords.com/263.asp

It tells you how to repair body work and spray paint it afterwards.

Matt
