today i wired it up. all the wires are in place now and i'm 99.999999% sure its all correct. i spent most of this afternoon with a multimeter and soldering iron making sure all was well. all was ok as far as i could tell, so battery connected... all seemed well. ignition on.... no smoke and all ok in the dash front. turned it over... it fired for a second and died. bu88er. tried again and nothing.

im getting fuel so its either timing or spark..... but thats tomorrows job. im hoping its spark otherwise i've got to take most of the top end off again. which would be a bore.

thinking about it. its very likely a earth issue.... engine isnt 'entirely' wired in yet. i was jumping the gun a bit trying to start it

Check your coil bracket is earthed properly, for testing purposes fit a jump lead to the bracket and a good quality earth point

Also check the cor circuit which is what stumped me when doing the wiring on a v6.
The other problem i had was with the oil sensor. If it was open circuit the engine wouldnt fire as a safety precaution as it thought it had no oil.

ok... im stumped

ive either got the timing very wrong or its wired wrong.

problem 1 the fuel pump runs all the time and i think the injectors open as soon as the ignition turns on instantly flooding it, i think this is the case as i have it hydrolocked after leaving the ignition on for a few minutes,

or the timing is VERY wrong, but im sure its right. so im defo leaning towards wiring issues.

what the hell have i got wrong?

if the fuel pump runs all the time and flooding the injectors then thats wiring.

Follow paul woods idiots wiring guide. If all else fails, try Paul @ Woodsport. The bloke was a legend when we did our v6 and offered to give us a hand over the phone if needed - we actually sorted it before i spoke to him but the offer was still there. A real gent.

Then you've got it wrong I'm afraid. The fuel pump should only run with ignition on if the afm flap is open

it lives. the afm was stuck open. a good clout and its ok now. flooding it has bu88ered the plugs but it runs, sorta. smokey and missfiring and wont idle but it lives

and having got the timing a bit closer we have proper life... just the dynamic timing to do.

so,having talked to chris wood on twobrutal i decided to strip the intake plenum off and redo the exhust cams, they where timed right but i didn't know about the spring tension on the sprocket. having done that i swapped the plugs and as it was so much easier to get to i did the mrel mod and wrapped the loom in tape then spiral wrap to protect it. thats as it stands now. i just need to put the intake back together and do the dynamic timing then all will be well....

except the oil leak from the short driveshaft. musta caught it when installing the driveshafts.

right, having re engineered half of the intake setup i now have a engine that idles properly i just need to support the afm and filter properly and do a few wiring tweaks and then its good to go!

that video is a bit crappy because i didnt realise not turning the radio off would mess with the sound so much but hey ho.
