Rogue engine fans not working

Post by Gullzter »

Just noticed my engine bay fans have stopped working completely, has anyone had A similar I ssue?
I'll be checking all the cars fuses tomorrow however I'm unsure as to how they are wired in or run, the wires join into a bigger bunch of cables into the boot next to ecu, and it's only a guess which ones they could be without opening the full bunch all the way back to fans.
There are 3 relays and 3 fuses in the boot which come off the bunch of cables, unsure if that's anything to do with them however I visually checked those dudes and they look fine :-k

Any help appreciated

aftermarket fans like that will work off a generic relay and either integrated fuse, or an inline fuse.

maybe dodgy connection, blow fuse, relay stopping working etc.

could be any number of things.

you first need to work out how they are powered.

Managed to go through a full cycle to get them working:

Tried disconnecting the fans, got 12v to plugs, when reconnecting fans, nothing to plugs.
Hooked fans straight to battery and both worked, tried a live feed straight onto King lead in fuse box and original earth on plugs and fans worked so the problem was the live feed.
Traced the cables back to boot into a relay which had ignition looped to fuel pump relay and charge cooler relay and both those worked so Defo couldn't be the relay and to 100% rule it out I took a live feed off the relay straight to fans with a new bit of cable and it worked.
So for now I've rewired it neatly enough, I've been told it is most likely a corroded cable as it would still get 12v but under load it would act up.

So I'm happy they are working again
