Clutch slipping

Post by pbmr2 »

Hey all,

The dredded clutch has started to slip at peak torque (UK rev4 3sge) and smells a little after some spirited driving.

What are the likley costs of having it changed roughly?

Is there a best clutch for the rev3+ 3sge? or will any old clutch kit do?

The clutch is a little heavy, not performance clutch heavy but not modern car light either. Is there anything that can be done to lighten the pedal action at all?

I have been using a standard clutch on a 190hp 3sge in the race car.. continually 5k launches, lsd etc etc.. never any issues... so just get a standard one, you'll be fine

I had the clutch, crank oil seals and cam cover gasket all done for about £350 plus the price of the clutch which i supplied and that was around £100 if I recall.

No, not to bad. I found it to be a ballache trying to find a garage that would work on the mr2 though. Hopefully you won't have that problem down there :thumleft:

As a guide we charge £270 labour inc vat plus the price of the clutch usually around £100 for LUK or Exedy. Gear oil £25 ish and driveshaft seals if they are needed. Budget between £400 and £500 and you wont go far wrong.
