The car's failed it's MOT today because of rotten cancer bars and I really need to get it back on the road by this Tuesday.
It's probably a long shot but does anyone have a set of the Ultra Racing or Pacific Works stainless steel bars kicking about they'd sell me? I've already checked with Ultra Racing UK and they don't have any in stock and I can't get in contact with Pacific Works to see if they have stock.
If not then I'm going to have to stump up £70+ for a set of OEM crappy mild steel ones which I'm loathed to do.

I've been calling but keep getting a message that they are "probably stuck under a car"

Just remove the cancer bars completely, all they do is stiffen that area of the chassis slightly. The car won't fall apart without them.

^^ this you can remove them they aren't required under the MOT

Most have probably fallen off anyway!

yep just remove them for mot, and sort new ones in your own time.

since the car failed with them on I don't think he can just take them off as on retest they will be looking for them.

The MOT guy said much the same, basically if I'd have removed them before the MOT the car wouldn't have failed. I'd not been under the car for a while so didn't realise just how badly corroded they'd got. Now it's been written up/recorded as a fail I think I'm going to have to replace them to get it passed.
The choice now is a new set of OEM ones for £70+ or a pair of the Ultra Racing ones for £118. Wondering now if it's worth the extra cost or not, any opinions welcome.

the ultraracing are completely different to stock, or not? I would assume the mot guy would have a problem with that?

Yes the UR ones are a lot stronger construction, they'd be fine for a UK MOT.

That's not how it works - they have to pass it if they are removed.

Thanks, I'll have a chat with the MOT guy, if that's the case this would be a good short term solution to keep it on the road. So we're saying it'll be safe to use the car without the braces in the meantime?
Re: Wanted Urgently - UR or PW Stainless Cancer Bars
Yes, they aren't absolutely essential. Just gives it a little more stiffness. IIRC, they are only used on the T-tops?

Would it take much to make one? Presumably it should be pretty straightforward if you can get hold of some stainless tube and have access to a bench vice and a drill.
Re: Wanted Urgently - UR or PW Stainless Cancer Bars
Ordered a set of the Ultra Racing ones in the end as I couldn't find any stainless ones available.
