Knock sensor signal wire

Post by outrun »

I have an ATS sensor to fit to my Rev 2 Turbo, but the ATS is a single wire, and the car loom has two wires.

One is the signal wire and the other just goes to ground, right?
If so, which of the two is the signal wire, please?

Or, do I strip back the shielding and join the two wires from the car loom, together?

Hopefully this fixes my code 52, and it isn't just degradation of the KS loom.
If it is, I will be running a new shielded wire to pin 52 on the ECU.

I know about the ATS KS debate, but I think for my needs, it should suffice.

did you not test the wire from ecu to ks ???? if so then why didnt you just replace the knock sensor if the wiring was ok ? i know they are not cheap replaced two myself but you know they are safe
If you see an MR2 with a raised engine cover, the bottom line is it's probably faster than your car.

I never, mate. I read about the wire breaking down, afterwards!

Sorted. :thumleft:

The car only has one wire, anyway. I could swear that when I had the KS off the car the other week, to multimeter it, that it had two pins...

I don't know why I was asking which was the signal wire, either (if it did have two), as all I would have had to do is identify the ground, and that's simple.

MB, the knock sensor is screwed into the engine block, below the inlet manifold, near the alternator.
