Brakes started going soft

Post by CalMac »

Driving home from work yesterday I braked while approaching a corner and felt like the brakes weren't doing their job as well as usual! Also noticed that handbrake wasn't working as well at traffic lights, and the car started to roll back despite me applying standard handbrake position.

Continued to drive and found that brake pedal travel had increased, but was fixed with a pump or two. It continued as a sequence like this for the last couple of miles of my journey.

Brake fluid is just under max on the reservoir, can't see any leaks from the hoses or calipers or under the car. Could water have gotten into the fluid somehow? :? Not seeing any warning lights on the dash as I did when my rear pads were low.

Project Mu front calipers and discs with braided hoses, standard Rev 3 brakes on the rear.

How old is the brake fluid? First thing would be to bleed the brakes and check all fittings I suppose.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Either that or the rear standard hoses are expanding perhaps?

Got to find some flipping Project Mu pads for the front too #-o

id adjust the handbrake cables first. the pedal travel might be just in your mind cause you're thinking about brakes. the master cylinder may be leaking a bit but you've got used to it over time.

Sticky calipers id guess. Strip down an check is the only way to find out.
