Weird boost hiccup/stutter?

Post by Ginjaninja92 »

Hi all,

I've now had quite a worrying issue occur twice in the last few days. First on Monday then this morning.
First time I was in 4th gear and went to overtake and the car kinda hiccups, or stutters, I think its just as it comes on boost.
Second time was this morning doing 20 mph in second, as I accelerated (towards 30mph...) it did it again.

It then felt like it wasn't making boost properly for a few minutes, but did return to normal after a while (15 minutes maybe, very rough guess). Although my controller does say I'm making boost as normal :?

Car is a Rev3 Turbo with Intake, Exhaust, BOV and EBC set at 1.2 bar.

Anyone experienced this? This is my first turbo and I've had it a number of weeks so a bit of a rookie. Could it be fuel cut?

Thaaaaaanks

Ignition components in good working order?

The coil casing is prone to cracking on these cars due to age. This lets in moisture/water.

I had similar to you. Replaced the coil, car was perfect again.

Yeah I had to replace the coil on my last MR2. This has happened when it was totally dry though, and didn't feel the same as when the coils wet, I remember what that feels like!

Thanks for the response though!

No prob mate. I'd still check the condition of the coil casing to rule it out. What about plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor arm?

I shall check them all, definitely worth doing I guess. Do you know if the Coil is the same between turbo and N/A?

What is the setup with fuel cut on a Rev3? Out of curiosity.

Thanks

I had this issue last month - boost hesitation at around 4k.

It would start to boost from 3k, then hesitate for a split second and then pick up to the red line as normal. Turned out to be a split hose from boost controller to vacuum T-piece by the intake manifold :thumleft:

If it does turn out to be that here's the replacement hose I used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290459342941? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Did you consistently see those symptoms with a boost leak? Or was it sporadic, or weather temp related etc?

Thanks

It was every time I went more than 1/3 throttle tbh, so consistent. It could be that you have a smaller leak perhaps and it's only making itself known once warmed up/driven hard etc.

I guess it could be, it seems to inconsistent to be honest. Could it be fuel related, dirty injectors?

Thanks

It's more likely to be ignition related as Red said, but could be fuel blockage somewhere

Dude run some BGK44 fuel system cleaner from eBay. This stuff has been proven to clean your fuel system. I put some in my car the other day, and with hesitating starts similar to yours occasionally, this has got rid of them completely. Awesome stuff.
