Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Hi guys,
I'm just wondering if it's possible to make my turbo flutter, I had a dump valve on and got bored only the pssshhh noise and want to make a flutter noise like my friend with a VXR, is this possible with an mr2? And how will I go about doing it? I'm currently swapped back to factory recirculating valve
Thanks
Either remove or disable the factory blow off valve. You will get the flutter on throttle lift and between gear changes.
Factory blow off valve/bypass valves are fitted to suppress noise and for emissions. Many vehicles are not fitted with them. The ST185 Celica GT-Four, as an example, was never fitted with one from factory and that uses the same engine/turbo combo that the 1989-1993 SW20 turbo is fitted with.
I had some cars thats loved running bov-les .. the mr2 is not one of them .. tried it with my ct20b .. car hated it .
Just my experience and thoughts
Ps. I was running 15psi+ .. if your only running low boost you might be ok .. still woundnt recommend it .

This conversation is always good!
Some are for, some are against. Good points made in both camps it seems. Personally, I will be going BOV-less, but to each his/her own.

Every car is different thats the problem, my car hated it (going bov-les) your car likes it .. as long as your not losing performance .. who cares .... ran plenty of cars with no bov , love chatter/flutter
Blocked my bov off ages ago
On a ct20b hybrid must have easily done over 10k by now without any issue. Sounds great and throttle response is better between gear changes.

Like i said every cars different .. wish mine had liked bov-less .. love flutter
I've ran a Bov and it likes it everything runs fine and I've just recently put the standard one back on and shifting is so much smoother!! And all I want now it to make that flutter!! :')
Am I correct in assuming that you could remove the vac line from the aftermarket bov, block one end then block the bov end with another vac line?
That way the bov wouldn't open at all so remaining permanently shut..?
EDIT: Read the other thread, my bad.

That will work on a hks style valve because the more boost you run the firmer shut the valve is .. other valves the spring can be over come by boost with the vac line detached.

I blocked the vac line off, does flutter but not the familiar Nissan flutter or similar. Any of you guys got clips of yours?
Nice one sounds good. I'll try get a clip of mine and see how it is in comparison.
Do you have a block off plate?
I run mine for two days and just felt sorry for the turbo haha.
