Hi,
After rigging up all electrics and jumping it off of my Peugeot the engine cranks healthily but does not fire up.
Obviously I will check to see if I have a spark to start with, but is there anything else more obvious before I do this?
I have had the head off and apart and all corresponding sensors/connectors disconnected.
The compression test came out eventually at 160-170 across all four and there is no nasty banging noises when it's trying to start up.
Any ideas that smack you in the face?
Cheers

Timing!
Set at TDC see if the rotor arm lines up with number one on the dizzy cap.
Fuel and ignition next.

Timing! But of the cambelt variety first and foremost, if that is not correct nothing else will be.
Then check your ignition timing.
Then check your ignition timing.

I will check the timing again tho I double checked it all before I put the cambelt pulleys on in place.

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
Are the cambelt pulleys themselves on correctly though?
They fit more than one way, most make the mistake of putting the cam peg at the top on both cams, which is not correct. That throws one cam 180* out, effectively meaning all of the intake and exhaust lobes are pointing in the same direction.
Basically check the pulleys first, then the belt, then the ignition.

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
Hi,
Well it wasn't the timing it was the EFI fuse I had removed when the head came off for rebuild.
But more annoyingly I went to undo the tensioner bolt and to my amazement it was tight as hell and rounded. Thankfully after an hour I sawed off the pin and put on a 1/2" socket and it came off.
Then checked all timing and it was spot on all round anyway.
Had a spare tensioner bolt so now it's all back together

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
Got it out on my driveway now.
Weep of oil from sump plug and between sump and baffle sealant.
It goes forward which is the main thing and the brakes including handbrake are excellent!
Electrical issue regarding the white loom plug but should be able to sort that out.

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
Cheers Chris.
Timing is being sorted tonight via a gun.
Then i'll book MOT for Monday/Tuesday hopefully.
Going to Silverstone on Saturday for the 30th Anniversary and parade lap...
Surprisingly I can get insurance with all mods listed fully comp with NO NCD for £112!

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
My aspirations have been severely dented as I have an oil leak from crank. So it's got to come off again!!!

Had you changed the crank oil seal when you rebuilt it, Alex?

Re: Engine Cranks, but no start
Yes, yes I did, unfortunately I managed to scratch the end of the crankshaft whilst I was trying to remove the timing belt cog, which was bloody impossible at the time.
So it's because of that. Another thing that's my fault.
The sump is off again now and after silverstone next weekend the 'box will be coming off along with the head so I can replace the crank.
