Refilling of aircon

Post by Zirax »

I have a 86SC which is getting some work done to it. On the list of jobs to do is to recharge the ac unit.

However the R12 gas is banned. R134a is mentioned, some say it is ok to mix, some not. Has anyone refilled their system and ideally know a garage I can take it to?

The simple answer and what I did with my AE86 which had R12, is that you need to take it to get it converted to R134A.

This is no issue at all and will cost about £130 and take a couple of hours. I should add that my AC with R12 was still working when I got mine changed over. If you have leaks which it will be tested for then there may be additional costs.

Any decent AC specialist will be able to do this for you.

I don't know where you are, can give you the details of someone in the NW?

Thanks Lauren, it is firing up, it just does not cool much. Agreed at that price it is not worth faffing about, it will be changed over :) I'm currently Essex way atm. I'll see if there are any specialists near me.

Always nervous using places near me as they have a habit of bodging!
