[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 turbo brakes issue

Post by markstevieandmads »

When I started using the car again this year after its mot I decided to uprate the brakes for japfest.
I bought some carbotechs front pads and black diamond predator rear pads and also some braided hoses.
Due to time I got a local mr2 specialist to carry out the work.

The rear caliper was replaced and sliders etc greased up and all was good.

However the more I use the car the more squeaky and squealing the brakes get. It's getting to the point that it's unbearable.

Now when I test fitted the carbotechs at the front I found the antisqueal shim things didn't fit and I believe carbotechs recommend not fitting them anyway.

But I'm not sure if the rears have been fitted with the antisqueal bits because they are terribly noisey. All brakes look copper greased up which I've been told may not be the best grease to use?
They are noisey cold or hot.
I'm gonna get the wheels off and have a look myself when I get some time.

Also on the same subject ,I'm gonna have to fit some brackets for the rear hoses. Are standard p clips (I use these at work for securing fire cabling) OK to use?

I was expecting that but the rears are worse and they aren't carbotechs on the rear.

BTW braking is excellent with great bite.

Mmmmm...yes. I've heard its not the way to go but I bought these carbotechs nearly new and got the best uprated pads for the rears recommended as I could afford as the time.
I've got no problem with the stopping power, they really are excellent. But the noise is driving me insane.

Well you're braking is severely out of balance. Could easily be dangerous in the wrong circumstances.

Either fit the full set or remove them all.

I've used these out on track and for quite a few hundred miles now and not had a problem.
Even having to do an emergency stop because of some idiot and all was well.
I must be lucky.

No problem. At least you know the risk.

However I may try bd predators on the front for now as the dust is bad too and the noise is not good for road use in my opinion.

Just get a full set of Porterfield pads, no noise and no dust.

I was looking at these.

R4s would be OK for road and occasional track use? Running standard power.
