Speedo cluster

Post by Martin F »

I thought all rev 3 turbos had 110mph or 180 mph speedos.

I have a 160 mph on my car, if I get a 180 mph speedo will it work ok ?

I currently have two speedo clusters, the 160 mph reads 10+ mph lower than I am actually doing, the 180mph cluster is around 7mph out. In both cases it appears as if somebody has removed the speedo needle and fitted it incorrectly #-o

can I fix this or do I need to buy another cluster ?

110mph is an overlay for the 180kmh speedo, so the speedo still reads in kmh, but dispays mph.

180mph speedo is a replacement dial for the 180kmh speedo with a kmh/mph converter.

160mph speedo is a UK speedo transferred to an imported MR2. whole speedo dial and face required to replace JUST the speedo dial/face on the import car.

I have a 160mph speedo dial/face from a UK rev3 in my rev3 import GT turbo.

Hope that makes sense.

Could you stick with the 160mph dials, remove the needle and adjust it slightly then take the car out with sat nav/gps speed on a straight piece of road and get it right that way? Fiddly I know but if someone had the needle off and made it read incorrectly surely it can be put back?

Worth a try if it has already been tampered with why not. Surely, if the needle has been in the correct place previously, it can be put in the correct place again?

I personally wouldn't get into removing needles etc. Either buy a new cluster, or buy a speedo dial to go in yours

Apparently the best way to realign the needle is to turn the ignition on, pop the needle off then align it with the top right corner of the single warning light that's almost directly below the needle stop then gently lift the needle back over the stop.

Ive not tried it personally as ive just bought one of stef's delimeters which is the best way to do it.

Just seen phil's post in o/t if yoi've one of stef's delimiters fitted it has a test mode that sweeps to 2 set speeds just alogn the needle with that, if there's issues with the delimiter contact stef he may be able help
