Yes one of these days I may learn that lesson

Just took all the tiles off in my bathroom probably for that reason, did it too much on the cheap and now decided i didn't like the look.

Still suppose i got 5 years out of my tiles, so not too bad.

Looking at the wiring diagram for the passive system (ie no built in amps), I can't see any signs of a "proper" crossover fitted between the head unit output and the main door speaker and tweeter, just a cable joint.

I suspect Toyota may just do something like run a capacitor in series with the tweeter to roll off lower frequencies to stop it distorting.

If I'm right and you're thinking of replacing both the main stock door speaker and the stock tweeter with vibe units, you really do need to use the Vibe crossover, even if you intend using the stock harness.

Just locate the joint in the door harness where the main speaker and tweeter wires split and insert the crossover.

Not only will it sound better, but if you feed a full range signal directly into your new tweeter with protecting it with at least an appropriate capacitor your very likely to damage it at high volume levels.

Just my 2p worth.

The cross over has 2 wires as In input and speaker/ tweeter out and I've soldered the oem connector to it, so you think the standard door speaker has both highs and mids/lows going to it? If so then I'll plug the tweeters into the crossover :)

I'm not sure what you mean. A crossover normally has a pair of wires in (ie + and - from amp) and two pairs of wires out - one for the mid/low speaker and one for the tweeter.

From the wiring diagram I would expect to find a pair of wires in the door loom splitting into 4 wires, two of which go to the tweeters and two to the mid/bass speaker. On the drivers side it looks as though the + wire is light Green. The - wire is labelled as L which I assume is meant to stand for lilac but looks more like light blue to me.

If you split that junction you should end up with the three pairs of cables to wire into your crossover. Well that's the theory at least.

Spot on .. I upgraded all wiring but if your not going to do that this ^^ is the next best way of doing it :thumleft:

The vibe crossover's alot more complex than a simple capacitor on the tweeter wiring.

My stock speakers are worse than that and still make noise :P

Also, aren't mr2's meant to have stock mounting brackets? Mine were bolted directly to the door

Yep all the stock speakers I've come across are fitted onto a bracket as the diameter is too small to fit directly onto the door.
