Timing Belt Changed Starter not engaging??

Hi guys, it's been a late one, just finished putting everything back together after changing my timing belt.

As a bit of background Id read about jamming the flywheel through the starter access hole to get the crank bolt out, so I had removed it.

Now it's back in the engines not turning over but I think I can hear the starter whir round. Can you tighten the bolts up on the starter so that it doesn't align with the flywheel?

Getting power through the ring connector to the left of the. I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the solenoid is not engaging.

Did you put the single plug connector back on as well as the ring?

I did mate yes.

I'm sure there's 2 oring connections on the nut that's giving me a constant live feed.

If it was electrical that would be a god send!

Probably worth pulling the starter back out and inspecting the gear on the end of it- make sure you haven't accidentally damaged it when putting it back...did it go back in easily?

Does the engine turn by hand ok?

Just pulled out starter, it's clicking and the cog extends but doesn't turn when I put the power probe on it.

Is the power prob not powerful enough to turn it or is it pumped?

Is your battery flat?

It was mate. So hooked it up to a spare battery - same thing.

Then just to be sure I got a jump from the gf's car - still nothing.

Sounds like your starter might be fubar'd

I've been told it could be sticking, I've to crack it and hammer it with a fair bit of force - if this works I'll be loving it!

Had to do this from time to time with my rs s1 turbo .. not ideal but did work


But it does sound like this if you can hear it turning like you original post ..

Got it working, had to hammer the nuts off it but it's wirkhg perfectly.

Problem now is my fuel pumps getting no power...there's ALWAYS something else needing sorted!

Did the diagnostic bridge and my pump jumps into life.

Love the car, going to try get a new relay for it.

Is there a easy way to test a relay?
