Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
As said, Failing m.o.t. also if the police catch you, they could do you in for driving without a valid mot (you would have had cats to pass) so then i would have thought you would also get done in for driving without insurance as your insurance would be valid only for the having a valid m.o.t. Although the police bit in unlikely, I have seen them i my area doing vehicle checks on cars....

Not tue. An internet belief.
Really? I would have thought not having a valid MOT certificate would mean that the car is not roadworthy in the eyes of the insurance company's, And would therefore invalidate your insurance as insurance cover for accidents only applies if your car is roadworthy and the MOT is proof of this?
Mot is only proof of roadworthiness at the time of the test, anything could happen after the test. The best the police could do is issue a rectification notice which has to be signed off by an mot tester.

As thomp says, an MOT only proves the car was roadworthy for a 40 minute period in the last 12 months.
Lack of MOT would not automatically void the policy. The insurers may try to avoid paying out any own damage claims, but the third party cover would still be in force.
