Turbo boost gauge testing

Is there any way to test that the stock turbo boost gauge is working?

Also, does anyone have a pic or can explain where the sender for it is located please ?

Stock boost gauge is just to show you are on boost and that's about it.

Signal is taken from the cars map sensor on a rev3+ I believe .. rev1/2's have a separate map sensor for the boost gauge .

Has the stock gauge packed up .

Sorry, I've been trying to get more info out of my husband as he's the one working on it.

He's just taken me out and shown me. The best way I can describe it is that it's behaving "erratically"! He tried to show me when the car was stood still by revving it from the engine bay but the gauge does nothing at all then. So we took the car out and it does kinda work then but it seems to be all over the place. Nothing, then full boost, then back to nothing, then half way and when you expect it to hold there it again drops to nothing.

He's wondering if he's knocked a connection somewhere whilst working on it or maybe there's a leak as he didn't think it did the same when he drove it before... Wondered if there was any way to test it. He says it still drives fine as far as he can tell, but we're not really experts on it as it's hardly been driven yet.

Sounds like the stock gauge has failed Ruth .. buy an aftermarket gauge and disregard the stock ... that would be my advice .. it takes a signal from the cars map sensor on a rev3+ , if that had problems the car wouldn't run right.


Swopping clocks just to check/sort this would be a pain

Correct. Engine doeasn't create boost when not under load.

The OEM boost gauge doesn't act like an aftermarket gauge. It basically reads nothing or boost. Not much in between.

Well, that's the question really I guess! Sounds like from what Peter says, it's behaving as expected, so maybe we don't have a problem?!

I don't personally know as have not paid much attention to that gauge yet, have only really driven the car once! Hubby seems to think it used to behave differently, less "bouncing" all over the place but maybe he's wrong?

Mines quite smooth vac to boost ... obviously have a proper boost gauge .. it shouldn't bounce all over the place Ruth .

Only thing to do is get a proper boost gauge installed. Very easy to do and will be very accurate

Important for many reasons.
