MR2 turbo donor parts and other transplants.

Post by masterbateson »

I was wondering what donor parts you can get for a MR2 Turbo from other Toyota's and better still fom other cars.

On the MG site there is a section with loads of info like this, for example the window motor and actuator for a mgtf, you can go down the scrappy and use the rear window motor and actuator from a rover 45.

Any info here for turbo's would be usefull.

I am led to believe for starters that you can use/drop in a camry 2.2 engine?
Presumably the celica gt4 engine is the same lump as MR2 turbo?

And allegedly you can fit a supra turbo/injectors?

So
What else can go in?

I was wondering if anyone is using say a Subaru intercooler or summat like that.
What got me thinking was, when i get hold of my own turbo, i thought i could try and fit my spare set of TF leather seats, and also i was thinking i might be able to fit my Induction kit from the TF on?

Here's what got me wondering!

There's a good few threads and a fair bit of talk on here re Turbos as in ct20bvs ct26.

Which made me wonder, as i like rummaging around scrap yards.

Can you source a turbo from somewhere else? Say off a mitsubishi GTO?
I know where there are a couple of those near me.

The only other car with same turbos as MR2 is GT4.

Y'know it would help if the search on this site wasnt so useless.
Then maybe this guy wouldnt have to post 9001 different threads a day about how he wants a nice mr2 but he doesnt want to pay lots for it.

The search function is completely useless on here, it seems to get worse as the amount of posts on the site increases :(

I always use Google to search on this site.

The guy does ask a lot of questions but to be fair they are not particulary bad questions.

I'd say go out and buy one. There is enough info in the stickies on here and other mr2 clubs to know what to look for.
once you got one just enjoy it!

The search isnt that bad if you chance the search options to all terms or whatever the default one isnt.

The search facility on here is useless, but that was the same on the other forum for another car that I'm not allowed to mention.

Some of you guys are so helpfull.

Strikes me as slightly strange, that on forum for mr2 enthusiasts, some would want to discourage people from learning more.

But of course all these experts never started out from scratch, and knew everything there was to know from day one.

My apologies for my shortfallings.

When you buy one, offer up the TF seats and let us know if they fit/need runners or bolt hole changes. I doubt too many other members have spare TF seats laying around to tell you if they fit or not. But the MR2 you buy might have very nice seats in already so you may not want to bother. Time to buy an MR2 and play around a bit with it I`d say, there is only so much you can ask and figure out without having the car in front of you.

I think most search we on forums are not as intuitive, hence I use google too.

If say I'm looking for exhausts, I'd search on Google " exhausts on Imoc", and Google lists the threads to look into! Then I log in and reply etc if wanting more info etc :thumleft:

Stick with it mate, we all start from somewhere and gradually pick up more knowledge along the way!

But until youve bought an mr2, there's going to be a myriad of answers to your threads lol. Once you've bought a 2, you can then ask members or traders you feel have the experience or knowledge your wanting answers for :thumleft:

I started with an NA, had this turbo converted, then forged, then sold it, bought it back then went for big power. But throughout my journey I posted loads of questions, noob ones etc ha ha but found Imoc invaluable.

Personally I Peter Gidden was a fountain of all knowledge/experience, as being an engineer Peter helped keep my ideas and feet on the ground so I didn't waste money uneccessarily, all my mods were heavily read up on!

HTH and good luck mate :thumleft:

Ps I restored an MG midget 1275 RWA model- good times :oldtongue:

Thanks for the positive posts guys

Went and viewed another yesterday and got another one lined up to have a look at.

The one yesterday wasnt too bad, was a rev2 conversion more or less standard, with a cheap respray that looked ok, long as you didnt look up close, or if you were a fussy bu88er like me.
However for 1500 (sellers orig price was 1700) quid i dont reckon i could go far long, even if i only kept it for a year before getting another one?

I know some peeps might think, he hasnt even got one and wants to know everything, but thats kinda the idea.

I want to be as well informed/clued up b4 I buy.
And i wasnt asking if seats would fit from the car I am not allowed to mention, but i will be trying to fit them if i get a car with moody split seats.

On a slight deviation to the intended theme.

Who's a good insurer for MR2 turbo's?
Matey yesterday said he was using A plan insurance.
