Did i just buy a new seatbelt unnecessarily?

Post by acf8181 »

Since getting my import n/a its been bugging me that the seatbelt retraction has a weird catch in door shut so sometimes doesn't work as i'm used to with uk belts.

Sourced a new belt but as i went to fit it realised it was identical.....removed the plastic import only catch and now the belt appears to work as a UK car would.

So, is that all that was needed?

Would you mind posting a pic of the import catch in question?
Mine's started to not retract without a bit of help and sometimes makes an odd graunching noise which I originally thought was the door latch rubbing but it did it today with the door shut.
With a bit of luck removing that will fix it but not sure which bit it is, ta.

interesting... I know the catch you mean. How did you blank off the hole afterwards?

The UK cars have a blanking plate, i got a couple of those

You dont even have to remove any trim.....can just unscrew the catch in door shut, wiggle it out, put blank in!

Had a sec to take a pic? or just describe where it is... eg: that weird little lever thing in the door jamb under the rubber grommet/button that controls the door open lights?

And here's what i removed...

...that catch operates this bit on the belt real (though isn't physically attached)...

Thanks, that's the thinger... I wonder what it's actually supposed to do, apart from making a really annoying noise when it's failing, if the UK models don't have them? Can't be that important.

i think its not failing...i think its intended to create the slack! No idea why though! Just remove it and all should be fine!

Might be too late with this, but on my turbo, with the door shut the seatbelt doesn't retract. When you open the door the lever moves and allows the belt to retract back.

Belt retraction is delayed until the door is opened.

The above blanks look the same as on an AW11.

If you see one drive down the road, just follow it, until the appropriate piece falls through one of the many rust holes.
