Dry idler pulley bearing, whine

Post by 2mad »

Noticed today a very faint whine coming from the behind cam cover.

I was thinking it might be a dry idler pulley bearing , should I be worried 8-[

Would I need to do a cambelt change to fix this ..

Rev3 engine .

Thanks , Kev.

I had this, turned out to be the AC belt idler pulley. I just took the belt off cause I never used the AC anyway

Yep, I had this too, on my previous MR2. Removed belt = perfect.

If you get stuck drop me a pm, pretty sure I have a spare (decent) idler pulley or two kicking around...you can do it without changing the belt, but it makes sense to take the opportunity to do the belt at the same time I guess :thumleft:

Yeah I got a similar sound on mine - like a sort of squilch squilch squilch sound for about 10 mins until it warms up and then disappears.

Cheers ashley .. I will do some investigation .. At present it just sounds like a very faint constant bearing whine .. The cars been very well maintained (all toyota mane dealer) cam-belt done recently so i would have thought they-ed do the idler pulleys too .. fingers crossed its the a/c

As long as its not going to detonate and kill the engine I'll stop worrying and add it to the fix it list :D

Thanks again guys :thumleft:
