[Mk2] [Generic] Bucket Seats for tall person

Post by tomush »

Hi,

I hope I have the right section, couldn't find anything for specifically interior.

Found these seats on GSM, look pretty good and a great price too.

Not sure if they will fit in a MR2 so looking for some opinions :)
I'm guessing if I get the side mounts that are a £30 optional extra they will fit? or would I have to get some other mounts to get them fit?

(for some reason it's not letting me post a url for the seat but if you go to GSM seats and type in
CORBEAU FORZA SPORT FIA MOTORSPORT BUCKET SEAT
you should be able to find it then. It's the blue and black one but I will be getting it just black as the blue is tacky )

It's on sale for £195 which seems a pretty good price and I'm on a budget haha. My drivers seat has a rip in the bottom which is becoming progressively worse and I would like a bucket seat for potential track days.

My deuce is a MK2 1995 NA GT T-Bar

I know a lot of people will say sit in the seats to get a feel or whatever, but I've sat in some before. Just wondering if anyone has these (or something fixedback/similar) and are tall  can let me know how they fit. Only thing that is worrying me is that where they are fixed back, that my head may sit on the glass at the top

Thanks for any help in advance and sorry for being a 'mr2 noob' only got mine last year :)

Short answer, yes they will fit as you can see in this photo of the blue "tacky" version in my n/a :D

Image

These are a metal frame seat with quite a low seat cushion. They are also fairly roomy width wise and will fit in the cabin without fouling the door or anything. They have both side and base mounting points. In my case I used the base mounting points on MR2 bride seat rails as I wanted to maintain back and fro movement of the seat, and the base mounting points line up with the mounting points on the bride rail.

Image

On a t-bar I found this setup resulted in a slightly lower than stock seat squab height, partly because its quite thin on the forza. I'm afraid I haven't tried mounting these directly to the floor using side mounts which would obviously result in a lower seat height again.

The general advice on here is to avoid metal frame bucket seats, but I can understand the attraction of the lower cost.

However....

I was never really happy with the Forza and on longer journeys found whilst it was roomy, the side metal rails became annoying and uncomfortable after a while, but then I do have an expansive waistline which Christmas hasn't helped

I've now replaced the Forza with a (large) Sparco Pro 2000 GRP bucket seat which overall I find much more comfortable.

In this case I've used Sparco side mounts bolted to Sparco MR2 seat rails (which are even harder to find than Bride rails). I never compared the two with a tape measure, but suspect my current setup has a slightly higher squab height than was the case with the Forza setup. But it is much more comfortable. And to be honest I'm sorry I went for the cheaper option first.

Ideally I'd to try and meet up with other MR2 owners with bucket seats fitted so you can try them out before shelling out. But if that's not possible, and you're on a tight budget Forza's will fit, and for what it's worth I'm around six foot and comfortably cleared the t-bar shades. But it really does depend on your height especially as ideally you'd want to still be clear with a lid on.

I purchased the Sparco seat through GSM and can't speak too highly of the service. They really did go out of their way to answer all my questions and get the tape measure out to check all the dimensions for me during a very long stream of emails while I tried to work out if it would fit both cabin, me and my Sparco rails.

Hope that helps rather than confuses.

Paul

You can either get mr2 specific rails or modify your existing rails. I modified my rails to fit my cobra seats.

That's my modded rail

That's the rough plan i made at the time

And that's the end result

I have this in my car

Image

Bimarco futura, fibreglass side mount FIA approved seat, on rouge side mounts (fixed) I'm a touch over 6'1" and fluctuate between 78-85kg

it fits me perfect, really comfy, really supportive. a tight fit in the car but doesnt foul anything

the £30 side mounts will still need adaptors to fit the std seat mounting points, they wont bolt straight to the floor. rogue side mounts are £120 delivered and are a direct fit.
