Strange central locking issue

Post by archangel »

Hi guys,

Wonder if anyone can give me some pointers for this problem.

Inside: Central locking all works fine from locking switch to lock/unlock.
Outside: Lock always works from keyfob but often doesn't unlock. Driver side (in the UK) lock/unlock using the key operates only the one door. Passenger side operates and activates central locking. Whats interesting is if things are not unlocking I just need to lock or unlock from the passenger side door and after that the keyfob will operate both lock and unlock functionality until the car is used again and doors are opened, closed, locked, etc.

Great thanks. Will take a look and see what I can find. The guy that installed the alarm suggested he thought the door open/closed sensor switch was faulty but I'm not convinced, however I have a replacement to try anyway

You could have a couple of things going on here. The feed to the unlock from the alarm to the loom could be poor or the motor might be a bit weak/lock mechanism stiff or could be a break in the wire to the motor thro the door jam.
Again for unlocking using the key in the drivers door you could have a break in the wiring in the door jam going to the control module or the microswitch on the lock may be knackered. The micro switch can be tested once removed using a multimeter. They can be cleaned inside and made to work sometimes but be careful if you open it as the legs on the cover are brittle. To replace it you would have buy used or order in from japan or US.

I have read that imports in particular need a capacitor in the line from the alarm to the loom for lock and unlock but not sure where. (been a while since I looked into it)
