Retrofitting heated mirrors

Post by acf8181 »

So i've just found out rev4 on have heated mirrors.

Easy to retrofit? obviously the glass fitting in is easy, but is the wiring in place? also, how is this affected by already having folding mirrors (mines an import)?

Toyota never made the retracting mirrors heated, so the wiring is most certainly not there on your import. If you want to retrofit, you'll have to do all the wiring yourself.

There are three types of mirrors on SW20s:

3-wire remote control (JDM GT-S, UK rev1-3)
5-wire remote control and heated (UK rev4-5)
7-wire remote control and retracting (JDM GT and G-Limited)

I've thought of this before just never got round to checking which revisions had the heated glass.

Retrofitting should be quite simple id hsve to dismantle a mirror to check what would be involved in the extra 2 wires folding in the housing but it should be straightforward just need to find the correct glass

I did it to a Mitsubishi FTO using heater pads.
Guide with pics here to give you an idea, although it's mostly FTO specific...

I did the guide for the retracting mirrors on a UK car (with heated glass), useful only for how to dismantle various parts...

AFAIK there's only 1 person who has fitted heated glass to a JDM mk2, stuart the fish. But I don't think he's on here anymore.

The only tricky part is finding the wire that supplies the current to the heated rear window :thumleft: :thumleft:

Cheers for the resposes

Should still be quite simple, just need to get hold of some sensibly priced heated glass from a rev4-5
