[Mk2] [Turbo] No Power Steering on an import sw20

Post by Lictor »

The power steering went out just before Christmas.
I was driving it and everything was working fine.
Stopped with the engine off for about 30 to 45 minutes.
Started it up again and no power steering.

I have done some measuring around and using a multi-meter (Before the ECU stops trying) have determined the following:
The relay is fine +12V on both contacts.
There is +12V going to the pump motor (Red) which is good.
There is +12V coming out of the motor (Black) Not so good.
At least it isn't the pump motor.

So... According to diagrams on the web this wire goes back to the pump driver box (Silver box at the back of and right side of the frunk as you look to the back of the car?) Is this right and am I likely looking at having to change this box?
Any other suggestions/advice gratefully accepted.
Paul.

have you tricked the ignition trick? Basically you turn the ignition to position 2, don't start the car, then turn it off. Repeat very quickly 20 or so times. Sometimes the PAS relay sticks the rapid off on frees it up. Also a cheap and quick thing to try

Yes I tried the ignition trick. That was the first thing I did when it occurred but like I said the relay measures no volt drop so it is good.

I've just been out and had another go. The steering sensor functions correctly. There is no code displayed/stored. It is just a constant flashing along with the ABS light.
Switching the engine on the code 11 is displayed (The only code) when the system gives up on trying the power steering. Which, from the description, is corroborated by my multi-meter readings as the pump motor has no voltage drop across it.

I also tried a full reset by disconnecting the negative battery lead for 10 seconds. but still no luck.
