Coil/Ignitor bracket

Post by Ginjaninja92 »

Evening everyone,

Car won't start, hasn't started for 2 days. It had been running a wee bit rough over the last couple weeks, intermittently wouldn't start, now totally dead.

Had RAC out twice, first chap suggested plugs due to dampness getting past the leads. I changed them but that didn't help. Second chap spent longer and spotted the coil arcing when it was being cranked so suggested I change that.

So I just got a coil and went to change it, but I can't get the old coil off the bracket due to rusted screws! I tried plugging in the new coil without the bracket, but it won't start.

Question is, does the coil need to be on the bracket? Does it earth it or anything?

Secondly, any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Yes the coil earths through the bracket, you'll either need to drill the screws out or get another bracket

Really, that was total guessing on my part. I'll try n get them out them. Any bright ideas aside from drilling them?

if you've got a vice you may be able to nip the head of the screw in that and twist it free, or cut the head off remove the coil and nip the remaining body in the vice. or you could simply make a new bracket from some sheet steel
