Best in-tank fuel pump?

Post by J-1 »

As above.

I bought a Walbro 255l/ph ages ago and think I've chucked it out by mistake. :eye:

Needing to buy another fuel pump but wanted to see what everyone is using.

Cheers

Yep- it's smaller than the stock pump!

ashley wrote:In preparation to put the tank back in this weekend I've been getting the fuel pump bracket ready, which needed a bit of modification for the new pump. I was surprised how much smaller the new pump is than the stock unit, I actually had to double check the part numbers to make sure I had the right one

The top plate needed the old fuel lines cutting off, and then I welded up the existing holes, and drilled new holes for the bulkhead fittings and pump wiring. I then splashed some paint on it to stop any rust appearing where I'd been working on it:

Under the plate I had to trim the mounting bracket back a bit to make room for the bulkhead fittings, so I welded up the back of the bracket to add back the strength:

With the bulkhead fittings in place:

I'm still waiting on the final fitting to fit the line from the pump to the bulkhead fitting, but the pump will sit like this:

I was going to use jubilee clips to hold the pump in place, but having mocked it up with cable ties I think I will leave them- the pump is rock solid as it is.

I've run fuel line around the wiring where ever it goes through the bracket to avoid any damage to the wiring (and possible sparking), I've also been really careful to make sure that there is a fuel tight fitting where the wires exit through the mounting plate.

All things well I should be starting up the car this weekend and setting up the fuel pressure...just need to research what pressure to run at, it was at 3.0 bar before.

Just depends on how many ponies you're planning on running on which pump you choose :thumleft:

That's awesome. Will definitely be buying one of them.

My aim is a true 500bhp 5SGTE, so if imagine that'll do me fine lol

If you use plastic cable ties make sure they will survive in petrol and not break down over time.

The 044 is a great pump, the Walbro is just more compact for in tank install and a heck of a lot quieter :thumleft:

The Bosch 044 is used a lot in motorsport because of it's reliability and will be fine for 500hp build. I would use jubilee clips around the pump to hold it to the hanger rather than cable ties.
