Quick de-limiter question - MK2 N/A

Post by SteveHo »

I've done a search which was really helpful, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't an easy way.

I need to the remove the 112mph limiter on an n/a MK2 with a Jap ECU.

I am, not bothered about wether the speedo works or not, I simply want the limiter gone. I can remove the gearbox speed sensor wire but I also appear to loose the power steering. Is there another simple way other than fitting a de-limter/converter?

Thanks

There's no really easy way, sorry. If you remove the speedo pulse then the ECU will throw an error code while driving. I'm surprised your PAS stops working - I'd expect it to not switch off at high speed.

The cheapest and easiest way to sort it out in your situation is to fit a kph/mph converter at the ECU to raise the limit from 112mph/180kph to 180mph.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Any advice on the best place to get a converter at the ECU?

P.S. Is it simply an error code that doesn't affect any areas of the engine/peformance or will the error code also reduce other engine peformance aspects - I may not have driven the car long enough to get the error code.

As shinny says, fit a delimiter (fits behind instrument cluster).

Out of interest, what's the problem with doing the job properly?

Plenty on ebay, and easy to fit.

If you don't care about CEL on, error codes etc, cut the purple/white wire at the ECU.

Thanks. Other than throwing a code/CEL I assume it does not hinder any other engine function/performance?

Garrett - PM sent.
