Took it out and up to full boost for the first time in around 4 months today! forgot just how quick / scary this thing is, really do need to focus my driving for next years sprinting.
Mark helped me loads with the datalogger, wired up the new huge screen i bought from America and made the button board for me, milling was done at his workshop, also programmed me a special start up sequence....

Well I'm moving house in jan so drove it over to my parents house this morning, lighting up the rear wheels in 3rd once spooled was certainly intresting!

Re: 3SGTE sprint & Track mk1 build
Its 3 months since my last update on this It has now made it out on its first sprint, which whilst going pretty well, has only added to the to-do list!
As expected my lack of driving practice for 18 months showed, plus this would be my first time in any turbo car and first time with LSD! Braking was on a different level from ever before (added to my caution from the extra speed), so corners were entered way to slow, followed by point and press on exit, the acceleration certainly helped make up for this on the timeboard though!
The car has mainly been in storage, as i have moved house at the beginnig of the year, so lots of packing /unpacking etc was needed, it also means i have lost my huge garage
In prep for the sprint I took the car over to s-bits for a service, including :
New full set of Toyota driveshaft boots
Gearbox oil change to redline MT90
Fit new rear tie bars from the group buy
Coolant change with Toyota Forlife
Oil change to silkolene
Brake fluid change to Motul RBF600
Gutted bias valve
Obviously not cheap parts, but essential to keep everything working as it should
I also had to remove the plastic air filter from inlet manifold to the dump valve, as 1.5bar boost had decided to split it into 2!
The car drove like a pig after this, as i knew it would, with geo all over the show! So it was taken for a full set up at my local centre - difference was unreal!
A set of Advan SA3Rs with kumho v70a were also added for the sprint

Re: 3SGTE sprint & Track mk1 build
Well.... it has been a while since any form of update on this... mainly as last year I suffered from a cracked block, rendering the car useless on any kind of boost
So early this year the car was entrusted with Fensport for the work.
A rev 2 block was kindly donated by Sy, this was crack tested, ultrasounded and checked for ovality, and then bathed in acid as it had been standing for some years.
The new build has been done on 86mm pistons, so no need to bore out the cylinders - more wall thickness
Since the last update, I am also running a header tank and swirl pot, and with the fresh build I have opted for evans coolant - taking every step to keep this engine as cool as possible. I also have a TRD 71 degree thermostat to install.
I'm now at the running in stage, but in the next few months this car should be back to its best
I will update with some pictures as it gets fixed!

A bit of work on the Woodsport engine lid.....
Alu frame made to support 2 x 11" SPAL fans...
Underside sprayed...
Arecoatches installed
certainly a large vent

Re: 3SGTE sprint & Track mk1 build
cheers Paul, just checked and I bought this off you in Feb 2012!!!
For 2 1/2 years I had regretted saying don't fix it to the standard webbing, I will make something up!! very fidly to get all the right bits accurate to fit it neatly, but pleased now!
Just need to re-install the lid prop now!

Re: 3SGTE sprint & Track mk1 build
Paul,
I was searching for a gas strut kit and came accross your thread on the OC...
took a bit more fettling as i dont have the standard lid, but managed to get it in and working!
I will be sorting out the N/S one once i have sorted my air filter bracket! Thanks for posting up!
In other news the fans are all wired up, blows an absolute gale so looks like all the work put in has paid off. Design of the lid also keeps everything dry! win / win!

Re: 3SGTE sprint & Track mk1 build
Unfortunately, I just couldn't fit the new air filter in the engine bay, with the header tank and swirl pot, pipework etc getting in the way, so i opted to re-use the original pass through into the boot and mounted the sealed unit there... This is sealed into the additional vent i have at the back...
The fans in the engine lid work just perfectly. Historically the rear firewall was too hot to touch, and the cabin became a bit of a sauna, this problem has been completely removed.
Also a couple of SPAL fans on the front radiator, and a TRD thermostat, have combined perfectly on the cooling side....
Time to do some driving....
Between Saturday and Sunday I covered 600 miles, including running in, a trip to Fensport, and most importantly.... mapping!
Results are just fantastic...
All ready for JAE!!!!!
