Anything works with black, but the car isn't just black.
You also have the orange
& white of the lights so that's already two neutrals
& one colour.
White looks good because it matches the sidelights and is neutral with the orange whereas the others fight for attention from the eye or outright clash.

Orange tobs will go clear replacement strips to match front.
