At around 70mph my oil pressure is halfway.
At idle or less than 2k rpm its very very low but does rise as you accelerate.
I didn't change the pump during the rebuild as I never had issues before hand with it. I did change the gasket and the gasket on the strainer.
I changed the sump on this engine from the corolla sump to mr2 sump as it had the outlet hole for the oil cooler. Could that have something to do with it?
Faulty pressure sender?
I must also at that when the engine is cold, on the gauge it's halfway but when its hot at idle i've got hardly anything at all

Re: Low oil pressure
No rattling noises from the bottom end when you accelerate then Alex

Re: Low oil pressure
It sounds sometimes like I have rattling noises from the top end, like the cams aren't lubed up enough but the oil pressure is good when that comes about.
But no other noises.
Covered 320 miles at the weekend and had no issues what so ever. Didn't use any oil or coolant. Hunts sometimes.
I have an unbalanced driveshaft which didn't allow me to accelerate properly which is the cause of my rear end wobble, as it's undriveable under hard acceleration.

Re: Low oil pressure
I've found that if I remove the PCV hose, the oil pressure goes up.
Re: Low oil pressure
Is it 'breathing' much through the cam cover vent?
Hunting could be a vac leak but I don't see why that would affect oil pressure.

Re: Low oil pressure
About middle on the gauge is normal when driving along at a reasonable engine speed.
When the engine is idling the pump isn't spinning as fast so the pressure will be lower.
When the engine is hot the oil will be thinner so the pressure will be lower.
What makes you think you've got a problem?

Re: Low oil pressure
I have a top end rattle when i put my foot down as if the cams are not being lubed up enough.
I've got poor low end torque, but that's down to the cams.
Maybe i'm worrying over nothing?
I had the oil cap off to check I had oil coming out at both hot and cold and I do.
Why would my idle improve if i remove the PCV hose?

Re: Low oil pressure
because if it is blocked, blow by gasses pressurize the crank case and create all sorts of restrictionsSuperRedMR2 wrote:Why would my idle improve if i remove the PCV hose?

Re: Low oil pressure
Do I have to run the hose back to the inlet manifold?
