The years have taken its toll on the paintwork on the top of the engine, especially when it was left to fester by the chap who bought the car and owned if for two & half years before i bought it back! Its started to flake, and lets the engine bay down.
I want to bring it back to its former glory, so would like to look at getting the paint restored or powder coated.
Need to get it back to this!
Anyone recommend anywhere?

See if was thinking about getting this done.. what would the issue with having it bead blasted first? As long as you get all the beads out..

Hmm...thinking its easy enough to remove the cover, so what thoughts on high temp spray paint?

Normal paint is fine. Ive had good results with hammerite smooth spray paint in the past. Easy to apply no primer needed and quite a hard finish

Had not thought of that. I have used Hammerite smooth in the past on my 205 GTI rear beam. Sprayed it Yellow and it came up a treat, and still looks great now. Could be the way to go!

Sorry, but that's complete nonsense.
I had my old rocker cover powder coated and it was NOT shot blasted beforehand.
I cleaned it up, granted it took a couple of hours of wire brushing and degreasing but it most certainly wasn't shot blasted. To that end, the first thing the guy in the powder coaters asked me was if I'd had it shot blasted.
The powder coating took fine and was still fine a couple of years after (when I broke the car) so as long as you're willing to put in some work, powder coating is fine.
Edit: Sorry Scott, that doesn't entirely answer your question lol. I used a powder coaters that's very local to me, so not really feasible for you.

My rocker cover was done with rattle cans with normal paint!
I am aware this isnt the way to go but its lasted over a year and still looks like new

Got any pics? Keen to see some finished results before I either give this a go myself or pack it off to some powder coater somewhere.

Re: Powder coating rocker cover 3SGTE?
Yeah dude I'll get some tomorrow! I did some research and people all said if your doing it yourself use "very high temperature" paint but I had done that on the inlet manifold and the finish wasn't great, so I thought to hell with it I'll give it a go on the rocker cover with normal paint, just used Halfords white primer and then white paint and lacquer, it's shinny and hasn't cracked and that's all that matters to me
And I did rush it, I didn't bother with Degreasent just some sand paper and kept cleaning it with hot water and drying, so if someone was to do more of a proper job and took their time I have confidence that the results would be brilliant, ah I will add that when I put it back on and let the car run whilst checking for oil leaks etc it did get a bit sticky but that's probably because I didn't bother to leave it for as long as I should of but it was fine the following day and has been since!

Re: Powder coating rocker cover 3SGTE?
Well i opted for the powder coating in the end.
Found a local company with a cool name.. 'Big Dog'...
Its with them now so hopefully it will turn out OK. He did say to me that there is a risk of any residual oil on he surface reacting with coating but will shot blast and de-grease as far as he can prior to the work.
Cross fingers.

Re: Powder coating rocker cover 3SGTE?
i would not recommend powder coating rocker covers.
No matter how hard you try, you will not get rid of all the shot blast which gets mixed in with the engine oil and wrecks engines. I've seen it happen too many times.
Just spray it, you don't even need VHT paint as the temps don't get too hot up there.

Re: Powder coating rocker cover 3SGTE?
I'm just rubbing down time and am going to spray it. Not worth getting anything under there in the engine. With plenty of prep and masking you can get a good job painting.
