[Mk2] [Turbo] Fitting a GT35 kit

Post by CRAIGROBBO »

Hi All,

Well i purchased a Garret GT35R Kit 2 months ago and really need to pull my finger out and purchase any other pieces required.

The engine has already been fully forged and ready to rock and running Apexi FC ECU.

The parts i have:

Garret GT35 Turbo.
Turbo Adaptor Flange.
3" Down Pipe.
Screamer Pipe.
External 38mm Tial Waste Gate.
All Gaskets for the above.
All Oil/Water Lines.
Uprated fuel pump 255.

The parts i think i will need on top of the above, please add to this if you's think i am missing items.

800cc + Injectors.
Modified Intercooler Pipework.
Re-maped to suit the new turbo set up.

Am i missing anything else here you think?..

Cheers Craig :thumleft:

Maybe a fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator if you've not got them already?

Hi Ashley,

Currently has a large Greddy style side mount cooler.

But depending on budget i might consider going for a boot mount barrel chargecooler setup from PWR @ £900 though :(

I think my current side mount would support 380-400 hp but then again i might be talking b0ll0x ha ha :thumleft:

Not heard good things about the PWR barrel coolers, if you do go down that route you might need to go massively oversize...but I don't have any direct experience myself...

Ashley I have heard the same about some of these barrel chargecoolers.

Basically over spec the chargecooler by at least 100hp against what your aiming for!

I'm ordering my kit tomorrow! Stuff it you only live once! Iv went for a 600hp kit even though the aim is 450hp ish!

Why are you going with PWR out of interest?

What about other makes, Spearco, Precision, etc??

I was mapping a mr2 on a GT30 turbo a few years ago and the greddy intercooler was a disaster , bottled out at around 330 bhp, I then went for a radtec chargecooler and had problems around the 410-440 bhp mark, Mapping cost me way over 1k and buying different mods for cooling mounted up very quickly, my advice is to look at previous threads regarding bootmounts and go for whatever suits your build best.
Greddy intercoolers are ok for 330/350 bhp max.

Thanks for info Martin well noted cheers...

Ashley,

I met up with my pal earlier who's busy building a 550hp Lotus Elise and he has been using an American brand of chargecooler from "Frozen Boost" they over half the cost of the PWR's even with the import duty on! Excluding the radiator the full kit from these guys inc shipping to the U.K works out at $358 plus around 20% import duty once it lands at customs!

Ashley,

Going for a Frozen Boost set up after seeing my mates Elise the night and he previously ran a PWR on his VX220 Tubby and said the Frozen Boost set up ran nigh on the same! He went in to some details and there was only like 0.2psi drop in the FB against the PWR!

I don't think spending another £500! To gain 0.2psi would be with it?..

To get the most out of a gt35r you are going to want bigger injectors than 800's and a 255 pump. 305Lph bosch 044 and 1150cc's would be more suited. Would also prefer a 44mm wastegate over a 38 as you may get creep at low boost on a 38, and with only a 255 pump and 800's you will have to keep it in low boost.

And the most important part, what is the compression ratio of your forged pistons?

So you have gone up on compression from stock and will be running high octane fuel or much lower boost than stock?
