After years of saying

I really want to do a trackday I finally got round to booking myself a day at Bedford Autodrome.

It was to be a final hurrah of 2013 before winter sets in and the SC goes in to have various body and mechanical parts sorted.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Servicing was all up to date, the brakes and tyres were fresh, Id bought extra oil, coolant etc just in case and spend ages in front of YouTube videos attempting to learn the 3.8 mile GT circuit.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Id even bought a helmet!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
And then the clutch went
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Yes, yesterday evening while going for a final
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
lets check it all still works run I noticed the clutch starting to slip.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I thought
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(in vain) maybe it was because its cold, so went for a longer run
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
still slipping, worse now.

bu88er.

So what do you do when youre less than 12 hours from a trackday youve paid for, and your planned car becomes a particularly wedgey paperweight in the space of minutes? Take your daily? Even if its a massive diesel BMW with comedy suspension and snow tyres?
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Sure, why not
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
And I had an absolute blast.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I was nervous from the outset that everyone would rip it out of my ill-chosen steed, but everyone was very accepting.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
In truth it only managed a total of four laps during the day
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
mostly because the brakes on a 525D SE simply arent up to any form of hammering! One lap was enough to cook them
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Massive thanks must go to Pete Mason for willing letting me thrash his fantastic little mk1 round the track for lap after lap
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
it was epic fun and really whetted my appetite to sort out the bloody Supercharger
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(which is in the dog house at the moment!) and get it on track ASAP.

If anyone would like to watch a rather boring video of the Beemer doing its thang
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(ahem), have a look:

![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
This was more to prove it happened than anything.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
I was more worried about not cooking the brakes than about thinking about lines, as youll see! My driving in the MR2 was much better
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(Id like to think!) by the end of the day
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
And a pic of the two warriors together:
