What do these sound like on the mk1?
Cheers

Re: Elise Back Box
Has anyone got the dimensions of this back box?
Re: Elise Back Box
I did this ages ago, sound levels are similar to a Magnex but a bit throatier. Sounded awesome

Re: Elise Back Box
You need an Elise backbox, a standard MK1 downpipe and flexi, and a mid-section welded in. I bought all the parts for mine and had it welded together and fitted for less than £200 - and that included the labour
Oh, also, you need to fit the back-box upside down and cut and re-weld the mounts back on. I did a thread on the mk1 club at the time but I think it's been lost since

Re: Elise Back Box
I first fitted an Elise box to a Mk1 about 8 years ago, it was quite a common mod for us back then, they sound quite stock on that silencer.
Re: Elise Back Box
Is there any improvement on fitting this over a standard Mk1 other than a different exhaust note?

Re: Elise Back Box
Not really, twin exit so looks good but not much difference performance wise.

^^^
This. Mine dynoed at 125bhp with no other mods, so you may gain a horse or two but nothing you'd notice.

Re: Elise Back Box
Do I have to cut the rear valance to make it fit? And why do I have to turn it upside down?
Re: Elise Back Box
In standard form the silencer box hangs lower than the tail-pipes, so if you flip it upside down the silencer box is more hidden and less likely to scrape along the ground!
You don't need to cut the rear valance necessarily, I did when I had mine fitted because it was already cut for a previous exhaust.

Re: Elise Back Box
Has anyone got any pics without it flipped over?
Re: Elise Back Box
I don't think it's possible in all honesty mate, the silencer box would practically be on the floor...

Re: Elise Back Box
Are they stainless or mild steel boxes?

Re: Elise Back Box
They'll be mild steel if they're stock.
Surely a second hand Magnex/Mongoose is a better option, unless someone is giving you a free Elise back box or very cheap.

Re: Elise Back Box
There is one on eBay at the moment for £50 and £20
I've had mongnex in the past and they are just as crap as each other.

Re: Elise Back Box
The Elise box just provides a nice cheap way to get a twin exit system on the car, but not a lot else.

I bought a Magnex in 2001. It went on three cars and was still going strong in 2006. Thought it was pretty good tbh. I did buy it new though.

Re: Elise Back Box
The Janspeed has cracking on all the pipes towards the back box at the moment. My powerflow exhaust hasn't done this.
I'm going to try and get a hold of a mk1 downpipe and have it modded at work. Won't cost £200, more like £100.
I'll flog the Janspeed and Powerflow exhausts as I need the money.
